33 weeks and bed rest

After being admitted for frequent contractions, I'm officially on moderate bed rest. Luckily, I was discharged and can be home, although I feel very unsettled not knowing when I could go into labor. Being in the hospital, getting all the meds and talking about delivering the babies at 33.1 wks really made all of this so real! We're hoping I can make it until at least 35 weeks, if not more.

Just trying to take it day by day...

Any advice if you've been where I am or are going through it?

Thanks!

Re: 33 weeks and bed rest

  • I went on bedrest for similar reasons at 32 weeks and I made it until 36 weeks and 2 days.  I was off my feet all day but I was allowed to take a shower and get food for myself and that was pretty much the only thing I did.

I read, watched tv and movies, and slept a lot.  Some days will be harder then others but just know that this is the best thing for your babies.  And you will actually look back on this time as a small blip in your memory.

    Hang in there!!

  • I was on full bedrest starting at 22w1d, due to PTL and shortening/funneling cervix. I didn't have much in the way of entertainment. During the first 7 weeks I was in the hospital and basically had the staff plus the tv and (regular) phone. The next 7 weeks or so I was at home, and had my DVD collection in addition to more TV channels than I had in the hospital. I wish I would have had a laptop or a smartphone, but I made do. I made a lot of "to do" and shopping lists for my poor DH! I slept a LOT and just tried to concentrate on the end result. I delivered at 36w0d, so all the bedrest was worth it! Best of luck to keep those babies in a bit longer!

  • Thanks for sharing your experiences! Hopefully it will pay off and these little babies can cook a while longer!
  • I am in a similar situation.  I was put on strict bedrest on Wed. after contracting and beginning to dilate.  Hang in there !

  • I went on hospital bed rest at 32.3w for PIH and got to 36.1w.  I know its different circumstances, but you can do it!

I tried not to let the fact that I was on bed rest make me anxious.  I accepted that it was what I needed to do and just went with it.  I slept a TON, talked on the phone a lot, internet shopped, got a lot of blog/nest/bump time, did some crafts, read, etc.

I know its hard, but you're doing such a great job!  Keep your spirits up and GL!
