Anyone have a reccommendation? I'm not at all stuck on the genie/arm and hammer diaper pails (but if you love it, tell me!).
I've been more thinking of a stainless steel one that I can use regular garbage bags in and use in a different room later. But they all seem so expensive. Reccommendations?
Re: Nursery Garbage Can
I was using a regular garbage can until my dog got so persistent in eating the dirty diapers.
I got the Arm n Hammer diaper pail. I got it on Amazon for almost half price and their refills are cheaper than diaper genie - these are the reasons I went w/ Arm n Hammer bc honestly, a diaper pail is a diaper pail. I like it, I think it contains the stink MUCH better than even a covered, pedal operated garbage can but I still take the extra stinky diapers to the garage. But nothing can contain that stench, so I'm not mad over it.
I got it for $24, WAY cheaper than a stainless steel can.
I went with a Safety 1st Diaper Pail. It uses standard 8 gallon garbage bags. I didn't want to have to buy specific refills.

We have this one. We got it at Bed, Bath and Beyond for about $40 (and used a gift card) but it's not listed currently. we LOVE this can.

I didn't want one of the special diaper pails either, so we got this one:

I'm a big fan of the simplehuman products. This one that we got is a smaller trash can but it works for us, we just change it every couple of days but that helps to keep the stink down anyways. Honestly I haven't noticed a diaper odor in the nursery at all yet. And we just use plastic shopping bags with it (like from target or something). I think it works well!
That is even better than the one we got. We have that one in our bathroom, and it takes the leftover shopping bags much easier than the one I posted about above.
We bought a simple white rubbermaid can w/ a lid. I wanted a tall skinny can that could tuck in between something (his 1st room wasn't big). It uses regular 13 gallon trash bags and the best part? I believe I paid less than 10.00 for it! So when we're no longer using diapers the can can be used elsewhere.
I am not a fan of "special" diaper pails especially when you have to buy special bags for them!

This is exactly what we use. We use recycled grocery bags, and just take it out every day or two. Or after a particularly stinky one. We did put one of those arm & hammer baking soda 'fridge things in it and occasionally give it a shot of Lysol. But we haven't had any issues and it works well.
