Infant MRI - what to expect?

Has anybody had to have an MRI for their LO? Baby K has a dent in her head that's been there from the beginning. It's most likely from how she was positioned with my pelvis or something pushing against her, but they want to do an MRI to rule out any other possibilities. We're going in on Monday, and because of her age, they have to sedate her so she will be still, which means no nursing for 4 hours before our appointment. What else can I expect? Any helpful hints to make the 4 hours without food smoother? Ways to get through it without worrying too much? Any advice, thoughts, or prayers are appreciated...

Re: Infant MRI - what to expect?

  • I have no experience with infant MRI's but I wanted to send you a great big virtual hug and lots of good thoughts.  I would be very scared too but I'm sure its just the pelvis positioning.  Fingers crossed for a great outcome.

  • Thanks ladies :-) I'm sure it'll all be fine - the whole sedation thing just has me a little stressed...

  • You should post on the Special Needs board, there are a lot of ladies who have been down that road multiple times with their children and could give you fabulous and practical advice.  I will be thinking of you and that sweet little one on Monday that everything is easy, quick and as low stress as possible.
  • Not my LO, but a good friend's 4 month old had one last month. She said it was much harder on her and her hubby than their baby. The sedation part was particulary hard as she had to hold the baby while they tried to put in the IV, which I can understand as my DS was hospitalized and had to have an IV when he was 9 months old. She said the MRI itself not a big deal, the anxiety leading up to it and the IV for the sedation was the worst part.

Sending hugs and good thoughts your way.
