Avoided bedrest today!

Last week I posted about my frustration with my shortening cervix.  It had gone from 4.1 to 2.9.  My MFM warned me that this week might be my last week of work. Well, since that appointment, if I am not at work, I am laying on the couch. DH has taken over all the housework/ shopping without complaint.  I also added 2 Boost high protein drinks a day to my diet.  It all seems to be working, because my cervix was at 3.5 today and I'm good to keep working!  Whoo-hoo!

  • If I were you I would not tell DH and let him keep the housework duties.Wink

  • This is something I've been worried about. In the two weeks between my MFM appts I went from a 4.5 to a 3.5. Out of curiosity, what does Boost high protein drinks do to help with your cervix?

Most likely absolutely nothing.  I was trying to dream up ways to build some muscle and bulk up my baby girl, who is the smaller of the 2 babies. She went from the 12th percentile to the 13th, so the Boost probably didn't do anything.  The MFM said that the fact that I quit doing pretty much everything besides going to work was what helped my cervix.  (Previously, the MFM had just told me to minimize my walking.)

  • I certainly don't want to rain on your parade as this is excellent news, but just wanted to share my experience... I was funneling and 2.5 and was put on bed rest @20w, a week later I was up to 3.75 and completely closed. Less than a week later, I started to dilate. So make sure you keep getting monitored frequently and keep taking it easy, as it is very easy to see these gains reversed. I wouldn't wish what we went through on my worst enemy.

That's terrible! Did you have any signs that you were dilating, or was it just through monitoring that it was discovered?

Some discomfort, but no contrax. Silent dilation is very scary stuff. Luckily you are farther along, but you want to keep them in there as long as you can. GL!
