C-sections

C-section for 2nd time mommy

I'm pregnant again, and my doctor has already scheduled my c-section, based on my health experience, I will need another c-section. My doctor said I would go in at 7:30 a.m., but what I forgot to ask is do they deliver the baby that day, or do they prep you, and then you have it via c-section the next day? For those mommies that had a scheduled c-section, how does it work?

Re: C-section for 2nd time mommy

  • You will have your c-section on the day it is scheduled.  If your c-section is scheduled at 7:30am,  then that is when they will bring you into the OR.  They will probably want you to come in an hour or so beforehand to prep you.  My hospital also made me come in 2 days before to register and have blood work done.

  • Ditto PP poster. My repeat C/S was at 12:30pm and I went the day before and did paperwork, blood, and they technically admitted me, got my bracelet on and then I went home. We got to the hospital at 11 the next morning, they did urine, I changed into my gown, and laid in the holding area, where inserted my IV, asked a few questions and drank a salty anti nausea drink. They wheeled me back around 12:15, baby was out at 12:35 and that was that. It was rather easy!

ETA: I asked for a later time since I needed childcare for DD. I specifically didn't want that early slot because that means you probably will have to get to the hospital at 5:30!!

  • Mine is scheduled for 7:30.  I have to be there at 5:30 for the usual pre-op stuff, blood draws, getting the iv, etc.

  • I'm scheduled for 730am also, so I have to be there at 530am for prepping, IV and all the fun stuff. I will actually have all my blood work done the day before for pre-admisson.

  • You will have your c/s that day. I had to be at the hospital at 10am for my noon surgery. They do all the prep stuff and monitor the baby. Mine ended up being delayed 45 minutes because of an emergency c/s so we just kept hanging out in triage.

  • My first c-section was scheduled and I had to be there at 3 PM and my son was born at 5:35 P.M. It was scheduled for 5 P.M. I had to be there 2 hours in advance.
