I've heard that sleep training can commence (for going to sleep. I know middle of the nights are still eatin' time).
Anyone start doing something different at 4 months to get more control?
Right now, he sleeps when he wants, where he wants. It's hard getting him into his co-sleeper at night and his crib might as well be filled with lava. He has to nurse to sleep, or to sleepiness--and then he insists on being rocked. This process is taking me anywhere from 20 mins to 2 hours (yes, I've tried starting earlier). The ole' put 'em down drowsy thing does not work here.  He needs to be out cold before I can put him down. I feel so powerless and overwhelmed. It makes me feel like a terrible mommy and that I don't know what I'm doing.
*I'm not expecting him to sleep through the night consistently at 4 months. His style seems to be to eat every 2-4, which I know is pretty normal for a BF baby. I just want to get him to go to sleep in his own space.

Yeah, that whole put them down drowsy was a load of crap for us too. Don't feel like a bad mommy- some kids are just "sleep-challenged."
DS never put himself to sleep until we Ferberized at 5.5 months. Before that we had to rock him until he was in a coma and he woke up 1-2 times an hour. The best advice I can give up that young is just be consistent with your bedtime routine. Make sure middle of the night wakings are for feeding and not for playing. I introduced the magic Seahorse at 4 months and it was a lifesaver.
