? about Summer video monitors

Before I kill my husband (who is making this monitor updating thing so.farking.difficult!), tell me a couple things about your Summer video monitor:

1.  Has it ever randomly broken and been replaced by Summer?

2.  How's the interference?

We need to get a monitor for Butterbean and I'm really, really not wanting to buy another Summer.  We're on our third replacement from them and while I appreciate their customer service I'm apprehensive about buying another.  Also, we seem to get really bad interference at our place (but not at others--the condo we stayed at on vacation, MIL's house, etc).  So what's your experience?

Re: ? about Summer video monitors

  • i'm curious about the answers too. our summer monitor kills the wireless internet on my laptop and makes my radio static if too close. i'm wondering if theres a way to fix that?

  • Ours never randomly broke but the static did get really bad after the first year and we got a replacement.  Our second unit (the one we still have) has been great.  I would even venture to say that it was (and still is) better than the first one we had.

    The interference isn't a problem for us.  We do get static in our room sometimes - you have to find the "sweet spot" on the nightstand - but DD's bedroom is furtherest away from ours in a one story house so there is a lot more real estate to cover.  When we use the monitor at my parents' house or when we've been on vacation, etc. the static is barely noticeable.

    For us the monitor has been awesome.  {We have the Day & Night one that most people have.}

  • I'll never buy another Summer. The static was an absolute nightmare. After having the Motorola for about a year, I'm a total convert.

  • BSE - my dh said you need to change the station or something and it won't kill your wireless. i think on the wireless. can't remember i'll ask him again and let you know how to fix it.

    I have a summer and i've never had any issues with it breaking. I don't notice any interferene with the wireless, although my DH says it does cause some lag, but he's playing games and downloading lots of big stuff. but for normal use, i don't notice anything.

    i don't notice any static either, but i usually have a sound machine on in DS's room so that comes through the monitor.

    we have the summer secure sight one.

  • I hate our summer monitor. HATE. It is incredibly static-y. But they do have decent CS. The guy I've been emailing back and forth with suggested it could be the batteries that we need to replace. It was still static-y when I removed the battery and plugged it in but you might want to try on yours to see if this fixes it. I would never get another summer again though, wish I would have listened to the poor reviews.

  • We have a best view day/night monitor and haven't had any trouble at all. We love it, actually. It pans, zooms, and all kinds of stuff. I did have one of the adapters break to where it wouldn't stay in the monitor, but they replaced it with no problem. I even bought a second camera for ours to travel with since our main one isn't really removable due to DH putting the cord inside the wall. We have absolutely no static issues at all. But this one is digital so I'm guessing that's why. Just my 2 cents.

  • We also have the Best View (digital) one and it is awesome. We have had no static problems at all. Love it.
  • Another owner of the Best View here. We love it too and have had no problems.

    Ditto all this!  We wanted to throw our first at the wall after awhile, but the replacement has been pretty good.
