Clicky: how many emails do you have in your main account?

I am going through my emails now and realizing that this is going to be an unending task to delete all the ones that need deleting (why did I keep them again??).  I have 191 unread ones for starters!  I have more than 3000 emails to go through.  Oy.

Am I alone in hording emails?  Am I the only one who just can't seem to delete that email from my grandma from 5 years ago?  (<-and yes, she's still alive, the old emails are just random).  What is my damn problem?!

  • Hi, I'm Keri and I'm a packrat even when it comes to emails...

  • DH is like that.  He never deletes any of them, doesn't even open most of them.

I am slightly OCD over my emails.  I love deleting and clearing house and purging.  It makes me feel like I have control in a crazy world  :)

My quirk is that I have 5 (yes FIVE) open, active email acocunts.

  • I never know when I'll need that email that tells me the 5 bazillion uses for a cab of coke! Lok

  • I have 656 (I just checked this morning and it kills me). Somehow it's just gotten away from me. I would LOVE to go through and purge/file away, but I can't seem to find the time and when I have the time, purging/sorting email is certainly not how I want to spend it.

DH is insane. He has three. All the rest are filed or deleted.

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • Um, I have 2,529 unread and over 700k emails in my gmail account Embarrassed

FTR, the unread ones aren't impt.  Mostly just emails from groups/lists I'm on or ads...  I try and delete them but once they are off the first page I don't ever go back and go through them.

Thank you for making me feel better about my email stash.  GOOD GOD WOMAN!  That is a whoooooolllllleeee lotta emails.  Wow.

I have 3 or 4 or maybe 5 email accounts too.  Eep.

  • I have zero unread because I have serious OCD about at least "mark as unread"ing them all or deleting some... I can't stand to have unread emails in there.

But, I do have 7700 total emails. My inbox says "1-50 of 7700".

    Eep.

Same here.  I have two main (non-work) email accounts that I check pretty regularly, and combined I have about 9000 emails holed up in there.

  • Right now I have 29,133 unread emails in my primary account, and for the record I do have a separate junk email address.

Gmail's slogan was "search, don't sort" and I really took it to heart.  When it's so easy to just search for whatever you need why bother putting stuff in folders or marking them as read?

    .
  • I am anti-hoarding emails. If I need to keep it, I put it in a folder other than the Inbox. If I don't need it, I delete it.

Looking at a hoarder's email inbox gives me hives. Yes, I know I'm type-A.

Becaaaaaause. If you don't "mark as unread" or delete or sort, then you have ugly ol' parenthesis next to "Inbox" and your tab at the top of your browser looks cluttered.... and everything is bolded. And its just not right. That's why.

  • I have 9K "threads" in my main 'personal' account. I also have 4 other personal accounts (1340, 1371, 164, 194 threads in their inboxes) and 1 work account (that I just organized yesterday, so it has about 20 in the inbox) which are all checked about once a minute (roughly).

that being said, I have 0 unread.  I can't stand to have unread mail.

I'd estimate that I delete 50 per day that don't automatically get dumped into the junk folder, and I'm really good about keeping up with that.  the 9000 in my one inbox are all 'real' email threads.

Or a big, ugly red number on your phone that just stares at you and begs you to get rid of it.

I just realized I totally did that wrong... I thought it was 14k pages of 50 emails each.  Oops, so really I just have 14k emails. Much better right?

I had to let go of my OCD over the red email number on my phone.  Now it's the only red number I CAN stand to have on there, everything else I have to get rid of:  texts, updates, app updates, voicemail/missed calls, etc.

And to the person with 700,000+ emails in their gmail acct (sorry, can't remember now who said that!):  Thank you for answering a question I was just wondering this morning, which is "just how much mail will my gmail acct hold before it starts bouncing messages back to people?"

My gmail has 525 emails, 350 of them are unread.  Mostly because I mostly check my emails from my phone, but I HATE clicking on links and reading website articles on my phone which is what 99% of what DH sends me is.  So I wait until I open my gmail on a desktop, but then usually I don't have time or don't feel like reading his garbage political/conspiracy theory stuff!

Also, I have a LOT of store/deal emails that I get because I know myself and I know I just can't keep up with  a separate email acct for that stuff.  It has to come to my main acct or I'll never check it and I can't stand to think of missing out on a great deal.  If I open it on my phone and turns out it's something I want to really check out, I'll save it till I get to a desktop.  And again, it doesn't happen all that often (2-3x/wk) that I have time to peruse all the stuff I mean to peruse.  So then the deal emails I've saved expire, and inevitably DH will have already asked me if I read his email and I've said no so he's explained it all to me in person, therefore I have no more need to read his email yet it still sits there in my inbox...

Also, I forgot - I have a yahoo acct but I almost NEVER check it.  I have some subscriptions that go to it, but not ones I care about.  I use it for extreme junk (like the Bump - ha!).  I just checked it - 1702 unread emails;  59 spam...  Hmm  Guess I know what I'm doing the rest of the afternoon!

  • I love to throw things away. I love to delete emails.

I get twitchy when I get above 50.

ETA: I've had my iPhone for 1.5 years and I have to clear any reds almost as soon as I see them. The only one that gets amnesty is Words With Friends. I see that as a "to do list".

Pretty much. All of you with non-work emails in the thousands are cray-cray. What kind of email do you save? Maybe I just don't get anything other marketing stuff so I just delete most of the time as soon as I see it. I do have over 7k in my work email but only 31 of those are in my inbox. I cannot to stand to have my inbox cluttered and I use it as my "to do" list as well. Those using gmail, try using labels. I have over 40 labels but some at work have well over 100. I just archive everything and very rarely delete.
