S/O Peanut Butter... The Increased Pricing Has Hit

I spent $6.69 on a medium-sized jar of Natural Jif yesterday.  I guess the bad peanut crops were no joke.

  • Woah! I buy it at Trader Joe's -- it went from $1.79 to $2-something (2.50? I can't remember) for a 16 oz jar. I didn't think that was too horrible.

  • Wow! I rolled my eyes at MIL when she said peanut butter prices were going up. Good thing DH listened to her and bought some a few weeks ago!

  • I am VERY VERY glad I bought 6 jars on Amazon (on S&S) last month. Less than 1.50 a jar for Skippy. we eat a LOT of 'pup-ber' in this house (as Gisele calls it)

  • Indifferent $6 for a jar of pb?  DS can't eat it, but I myself practically live on it sometimes.  Yikes.

  • Great. DS and DH LOVE it so much. And since DS is dairy free right now he eats more peanut butter it seems. DH eats it by the spoonful!

  • I've always used peanut butter because it was cheaper, but I might start trying almond butter or other alternatives.  Plus the preschool DD is going to next year is peanut free anyway.

  • I stocked up a few weeks ago by buying a couple large jars.  DH said I was on my way to being a hoarder, lol!  Now who's laughing.

  • *whew* I am glad I stocked up. When does that stuff go bad? I got at least 3 jars unopened.

  • I think the shelf-life was pretty gone.  I bought mine at Target (in CA) which is not the cheapest store but not ridiculous either.

I still think peanut butter's a good value for what you get and how long it lasts but holy cow.

  • We switched to almond butter awhile back (Barney Butter is BY FAR the best there is), and it's about $6 for a 10 oz jar at Whole Foods.  The kids aren't really into PB&J sandwiches (I've tried and tried), so luckily we don't go through a ton.  But I really love it on toast and apples, and the occasional PB&J myself.  :-)
