Totally Random: Anybody ever gone to a monster truck show?

DS loves monster trucks.  I have no idea why.  So anyway, I heard a commercial on the radio that Big Foot was going to be at the Academy in SM.  I'm contemplating making the trek out there so DS can see it because I know he will LOVE it.  But DH is kind of worried that Big Foot will be too loud.   The Big Foot show is outside so I figured we could stand kind of towards the back of the parking lot if it is kind of noisy but I think if we did that it would make it hard for DS to see Bigfoot.  Am I crazy?  MC-What did you do when the fastjetpilot went to see the Blue Angels?  Did you send him up to Dallas with some sort of ear protection after all?

  • I haven't, but my brother has taken my 2 oldest nephews to a monster truck show.  (I think they actually went to the show you mentioned.)  They didn't use ear protection, and the boys didn't say anything about it being too loud/scary, but then again they could've been so busy freaking their freak about the monster trucks that they didn't notice.

I think they were 2 and 4 years old at the time.

  • I haven't been to a monster truck show, but I have been to a motorcross event.  I didn't feel like it was too loud, but then again, I'm an adult and it wasn't that big of a deal to me.  However, I'm usually pretty hyper-sensitive about DD's ears when we go to events where it is remotely loud - I have a pair of ear muffs for DD that she wore at ACL and when we go to UT football games.  She doesn't really care to wear them when we're puttering around the house (I was trying to get her used to them when I first bought them) but she will absolutely put them on - and leave them - when it's too loud for her.

    Here's what I have:

I got mine on Amazon.  They're pink so I don't think you'd want to borrow mine Wink but I know that noVA-grl & Feisty both have boy-friendly colors if you wanted to see about borrowing theirs.

  • My best friends son has gone to several over the years and loves the events. He is 6 and I dont believe he has ever had the ear muffs.

  • I'd do ear protection for sure. if you can't borrow a pair of muffs, I'd get some ear plugs at the very least.

You can totally borrow one of our pairs.  I think you work near me.  Shoot me an email!

I have been to monster truck show.  (It's mandatory if you grow up in West TX.)  It is very loud.  It stinks of diesel. And your DS may be freaked out seeing something that huge up close & personal.  I'm speaking from experience.  My boys looooove Thomas the Tank so we bought tickets to ride the train at Day Out with Thomas.  The boys were not happy and cried the whole time we were getting on and finding seats.  They eventually calmed down to enjoy it, but the point is that I think seeing these things on TV is safe and removed.  Seeing them in person is a whole different story.  Not trying to talk you out of it, just trying to warn you that he may not be a happy camper until he gets used to it.
