I've been trying my best to stretch out LO's expenses through this entire pregnancy. I'm not sure if it's the holidays or what but lately I don't feel like I'm doing so well. My completion coupons are due on Black Friday...I'm itching for some sales but also fearing not being able to resist the good deals! I'm down to a smaller list of things but now have to deal with holiday expenses, house insurance, and a massively large gas bill if we wish to be warm this winter! I just might have to break the dreaded credit card out. ![]()
On top of this DH bought me a $100 necklace for our anniversary earlier this week. I'm trying to be grateful but just keep thinking I could trade it in for crib mattress pads and bottles (spoken like a mom already right?). Oh...and he wants to go shopping for a new truck tonight!
Re: Anyone else feel like they are going broke?
Getting last minute things for baby has eaten away all our extra money and now with Black Friday approaching and holiday shopping it's really becoming more of a headache than anything. Thank goodness we have everything for baby at this point.
Yep not going broke, already gone...lol The good news is the expesive part (other than child care) is over for a few months but with a not paid maternity leave, it is going to be a HUGE challenge...Hopefully it all works out in the end!
Definately spoken like a true mom!! I really need a haircut, but diapers come first..LOL
yes absolutely, but not baby related broke -- house related broke. We've spent a fortune renovating -- enough to buy another house. The additional costs that have sprung up have stressed me out to no extent (our washer/dryer both broke during the reno, awesome, but thank God for Craigslist), found termites ($$), had to replace floors ($$$), sprinkler system went out ($$$$), and then just last week we flooded our basement with poo/pee pouring out of the new pipes. It's been awesome. lol
And of course my older daughter needs new winter clothes/boots, even though we just went school shopping two months ago (she has already grown out of all her new shoes!). And on top of that her school is now hitting us up for all of the end of the year parties and the fundraisers. No, I don't want a $20 candle
I can't wait till this is all a distant memory.
I always feel like we're going broke! But I handle our money and have to budget very carefully in order for us to live in this area. DH seems to think we can buy more than we really can. I guess he assumes that we can afford more just because he makes a good salary. It's discouraging.
I'd wait on some of the baby gear. You'd be surprised at how much of it you really don't even need.
Exactly!!! My DH does well too...but doing the finances in the household I don't have the heart to tell him no.
Being a FTM I'm TRYING not to go overboard on all the baby stuff (I've always thought some of it to be a waste). I'm down to things like a thermometer, mattress pads, etc. My two bigger items are a swing and a nursery chair. The chair I might try and put off a bit :S.
I COMPLETELY feel your pain. I'm sorry you have to go through a huge remodel with being pregnant and having a child already though. DH bought a fixer upper a few months before we were married. It was a HUGE money pit and everything kept snowballing (like your were saying). Not only all of that but it was RIGHT.NEXT.DOOR to his parents (HELL!). Thank god we sold it the same month I got pregnant...I don't think I would have survived! Remodels can be very rewarding though. Thankfully I can say that we at least broke even when we sold. If the house would have been in a better location we would have stayed. It's amazing to see the transformation. I wish you the best!
Let me tell you, we're doing everything in our power to save money (including using cloth diapers instead of disposable and getting the majority of our stuff from friends and off craigslist) and its like the world is working against us in any way it can. We had to repair a leak in the garage which led to replacing the ceiling in the garage, there was ANOTHER leak in our bathroom ceiling (a completely separate and different problem) which led to us taking out a 12ftx5ft section of our Living room wall and most of the bathroom wall because of mold, we found termites (in the backyard) and had to treat the house for those, then our kitchen sink backed up and ofcourse it couldn't be snaked from the sink and could only be reached from the roof. Now our refrigerator is is on the fritz and we're having to look for one of those....and I stupidly already volunteered to do Thanksgiving at our house this year, and since we're military and all of my husbands friends are men who are unfortunately ignorant of the cost/work that it takes to make Thanksgiving dinner and are otherwise incapable of cooking anything edible I am responsible for it all and have that expense. Hopefully our Turkey doesn't defrost and go bad before the big day because I will simply throw up my hands and say SCREW IT! This has all been going on since October 10th. I am likely going to lose my mind. I am actually LOOKING FORWARD to going to the hospital and spending a few days away from my house and the enormous stress that it gives me!
Just repeat my mantra: "Its all going to work out. Its all going to work out."
Just read your post......are we living in the same house?!?! lolol Its not funny at all actually thats more of an insanity laugh, (picture me with my hair sticking straight out from my head and my eyes wide and crazy!) Unfortunately we had many of the same things happen to us only AFTER we had JUST FINISHED putting in our brand new floors. Obviously we would've saved the money on that had we known the THOUSANDS of dollars we would spend fixing everything around the house. LOVE owning. Hope everything slows down for you and we don't see another thing wrong with our houses for a few years at least!!!
Yes we are well on our way to broke! I was just thinking about this this morning. I am so so grateful that we are able to have everything that we do...but in getting it our savings account has been depleted and we don't have the cushion we usually have. We had to buy a new (used) family friendly car, plus all of the stuff Miles needs. I think we are done. I hope!
I had a Christmas account that would have been up to almost $500 by now, but unfortunately is down to under $200. I miss not having my own income!
