someone texted me this morning - UPDATED

and I have no idea who it is.  The kicker is, they use my name on the text and say they're "coming in later".  Which makes NO sense to me.  The number is a 512 area code.  I'm so confused!  Is there a way to find who sent it without directly asking?

    Call from another number and hang up when they answer and see if you recognize the voice?

    Just ask.  Chances are they have more than one person saved in their phone with your same name and they accidentally texted you.  They will hopefully be thankful you clarified so the person they do see when they "go in later" wont be mad that they didnt get a heads up.

    Ok, I asked her.  Hopefully it's just that she has two people named Joyce (!!! hard to believe) in her phone contact list.  If it's someone I know, I'm going to feel like an as$hole.

    You would be surprised how many people save other peoples numbers.  I got a HAPPY HALLOWEEN text from a guy we sold a table too on craigslist months ago. HELLO!? Indifferent

    Very weird. My husband got a text a few days ago from a girl with a 512 # asking him if he was DTF (and I had to tell him what that meant). When he told her she had the wrong #,  she kept insisting that HE had just texted HER and they met last night at some club (that we'd never heard of). Anyway, she keeps on texting him!! He's just quit answering her. I told him that he should play along and say really crazy stuff to her.

    ETA:  nevermind.  Just remembered you said they used your name.  Still, maybe they thought you'd get the msg to DH?  I dunno. Confused

    This was the original text:

     

    Joyce, my dad had to go back into the hospital yesterday suddenly, and he has been re admitted.  I'll need to be at the hospital this morning, but will come in later.  kristi

    sounds like someone slept in and might have been hungover.  ;)

     

    Then I texted:

    I'm so sorry about your dad, I hope he's ok.  (<-when I thought maybe i should know who this kristi was)

    then:

    what will you be coming in for?

    then after posting here:

    I'm sorry.  Who is this?  Your phone number isn't saved on my phone.  :)

     

    Then she calls me immediately after that text and says, "Joyce?  Hello?"  And I said, "Hello?"  She says, "This is Kristi."  And I say, "Kristi.....??"  And she says, "Kristi."    I guess she realizes at this point that she has the wrong Joyce (!!!) and hangs up on me!  Then she texts:  sorry, wrong #.

    How the hell did she get my number anyway??  WEIRD.

    I saved a clients miner wrong once, by one digit. Turns out the wrong number girl had a similar name- Christy and Christine. I had to reschedule and left her a couple and could not figure out why she wouldn't call me back. In ally she answered and was kinda pissy. In guessing it's happened to we more than once. 

    So maybe you're one digit off another Joyce??

    I think it is bizarre that she would realize it's the wrong number, HANG UP ON YOU and then text you.....I mean could she not just utter those words while on the phone?!

    Weeeeird. Maybe you had some random interaction with her - bought something/sold something via Craigslist. Friend of a friend you met 6 years ago ... some random reason she's had your number saved in her phone? But still ... obviously this other Joyce is someone she talks with regularly ... why would she get it mixed up now?
