My mom is a big time quilter and she has asked me to find a few good quilting specialty shops for her visit here in a week or so. We are looking for a particular sage green color in patterened fabrics to use for the nursery and we're having a hard time at the usual places (jo ann's, hancock). She said a quilting shop would have more variety in pattern and quality. Bonus points if it's up north too.
TIA!
Re: **nannann or other quilters***
The Quilt Store @ Anderson Ln.
Sew Much More @ Anderson Ln.
Honeybee Quilts @Anderson Mill Rd.
Not up north but with nice fabrics:
Stitch Lab @South First
Walker Hall @ 12th & Lamar
A Quilter's Folly @ Brodie & Alexandria
Quick review of the ones MrsAJL listed:
Quilt Store - probably more bolts than anyone; TONS of batiks
Sew Much More: I don't ever bother going in - just not much
Honeybee: Good store - would recommend when looking for a certain color
Stitch Lab: specialize more in the modern fabric lines - all they have can be seen online (which actually almost prevents me from going -- I can more easily not fall in love with a fabric online...)
Walker Hall - never been (I know! might need to check out!)
A Quilter's Folly - under new management and I liked what they were doing.
Others:
Ready to Sew Bernina at 1431/Parmer: I really love this shop -- I really like the employees and good fabric selection
Austin Sew & Vac at 35/McNeil? (in same shopping center as Kaleidoscope Toys): pretty good selection as well. Every 3rd Saturday everything is 20% off
If you're up for a drive, there is also The Sewing Basket in Salado and B&B Quilting in Buda (really *love* this shop too - jam-packed little store!)
And on December 1st a new one is opening: Hennig House Quilts not far from Dessau/Howard. They had some super cute patterns at Houston Quilt Festival a couple weeks ago, but obviously I have no clue what their fabric selection will be like.
