"High chair" that straps onto a regular chair?

Just wondering if anyone has any reviews of a non-free-standing high chair option.

We have so many dining room chairs and kitchen table chairs etc. that it seems kind of goofy to buy a completely separate high chair when we could probably just use an available chair and strap on the high chair part for baby.

Any recommendations?  Or arguments for or against this idea?

Thanks in advance for your response!

  • We have the Fisher Price Space Saver... it works well on our chairs.  Just make sure you pull the straps very tightly.  Ours reclines and the tray moves to different positions as well.  Our four month old uses it as well as her two year old cousin when he visits.  We've also used it on the floor.  Great chair.

I have a cousin who swears by his chair. They live in a small condo and for just the three of them, she says it is perfect.

Glad you mentioned this one... I was just reading reviews on Amazon on the FP Space Saver, and it was sounding pretty good.

But as far as keeping the straps tight... I think that is the part that makes me a little nervous.  How do you ensure that the straps stay tight?  I guess just by checking every time before you put baby in?  Or do they pretty much stay tight if you pull them tight the first time?  Seems like the more active baby gets, the more it may move on the chair and potentially loosen the straps?

  • We really like having our high chair on a kitchen chair, no complaints so far.

We started with the Fisher Price Space Saver, and we really liked it.  We used it as a chair before our LO was eating solids, loved that it reclined.  As she got a little older I bought this on Craigslist used.  It's not as fancy but we love it - it has a removable tray insert and is super easy to use, and clean.  Not sure it would be good for a LO just learning to eat, it doesn't have as much head support as the Space Saver.

The SS converts to a booster seat and I've heard that with the arms it doesn't fit under most tables so that is something to keep in mind.  The Safety 1st one has lower sides and can adjust in height.

BRU has it in their black friday ad for $29.99; we're getting the tan swirl one.

  • We have the FP Space Saver.  We also have their booster seat for traveling.

We love this highchair.  We have no problem with the straps being tight.  We tighten them and they don't get loose.  We've been using this highchair for over a year now.  When DD was 3 months old around Thanksgiving, we put her in the Space Saver, totally reclined.  She was a part of the meal, although not eating.

  • I've registered for the Space Saver as well. It has good reviews online as well as good reviews in Baby Bargains (it's one of their picks). We're getting tan swirl.

  • I have this and love that it isn't as bulky as the space saver.  It's also so easy to transport and I haven't had any trouble w/ the straps coming loose.

  • I've had a lot of friend who have used the Fisher Price Space Savers and loved them. And its from their experiences that I decided to go with something like that too...this is what we'll be using:

  • we also have a Fisher Price Space Saver and it is awesome! It "grows" with your child and will work for when they are older and just need a booster seat. It helps with space saving in our tiny apartment too. Also, Baby Gizmo names it the #1 high Chair... You should definitely go for it!
  • We have the FP Space Saver and love it, so much better than a big ol' ugly highchair!

That's the booster we have - but we didn't start using that until DD was 10 months old.  It's not as comfy as the space saver.  The space saver reclines for small babies.

I have the MiSwivel too. I love it!  We started using it at 3.5 months to get him use to it and started solids at 4 months.  I love that it swivels so we don't have to move the chair. We eat dinner as a family and it is great to have him table height and at the table with us.
