I know I've seen some posts here about some of you having one. I got a BFP last Wednesday, but chose not to announce here because I feel I am not active enough on this board.
I had an appointment today (after my betas went from 54.6, 55.4, 72.1 and then 91 between last Thursday and today) to determine the cause of my abnormal betas. They determined since I O'd from the right (evidence was 2 CL cysts on my right ovary) which is the side of my partially blocked tube AND my abnormally rising betas, that my pregnancy is ectopic. Since my hCG is so low they couldn't see a thing on u/s.
Long story short, I chose to have surgery, next Wednesday vs the methotrexate shot. I chose surgery because they're going to try and clear out my partially blocked tube after they remove the pregnancy from my tube and endometrial lining from my uterus.
What can I expect with this type of surgery? They said I would be in pain and need some time off work (which is why I chose next Wednesday, unless I have pain I will have emergency surgery) but I am curious how recovery went for you.
ETA: I am also having a D&C at the same time as the laparoscopic surgery
Re: Laparoscopic surgery- what to expect...
Thank you... I am a kindergarten teacher so I will have off from Wednesday (day of surgery) through Sunday. Monday we have an inservice so I will just have to sit all day through meetings. My doctor told me at least 4 days and I have a decent pain tolerance, I'm just hoping I'm well enough to be back with my students on Tuesday. A few of them were crying when my sub showed up today and I want to avoid that again if at all possible.
So sorry for your loss and what you are going through.
I had my lap a week ago today. I was out of work Thursday, Friday and Monday. I could have returned on Monday but wanted and extra day for myself. I have a desk job so lifting isn't part of it. I was sore for the first couple of days and by Saturday had stop taking all pain meds. Monday night I was able to comfortably sleep on my side and stomach. I'm definitely still bloated but otherwise feel fine. My doc said no lifting anything over 10 lbs for six weeks.
Good luck!
I'm so sorry for your loss.
My lap went really well. I had some cramping the day of the surgery but the pain meds they gave me really helped. I didn't need to take the Rx meds after the first day, just 2-3 regular Ibuprofen. I had my surgery on a Thursday and went back to work Tuesday. I could've went in Monday but decided to work from home just in case.
One thing I will say, you'll feel like you want to get up and move around or go out after the first 2-3 days, but take it easy. You'll feel fine for 15-20 minutes but then you'll need to sit or lay down again! GL. I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

I am so sorry for your loss. It sucks to be so excited about a BFP and then have something like an ectopic pregnancy or m/c. I have had 2 laps to clean out endo which would be a little different than what you are having. I had my first lap when I was 22 and the recovery was not that bad. They did this lap to diagnose me, plus they cleaned out my endo, & took out my appendix. The biggest problem I had afterward was pain in my shoulder from the gas used during the surgery. The other problem was that I could not walk upright for a few days. I think I had that surgery on a Tuesday and I was going to a party that Friday night.
Now for my second lap story. I had my second lap done when I was 26. They strictly did it to clean out the endo because it was causing me so many other problems. A lot of my endo grows around my intestines and colon so they had to remove a lot in that area. The recovery from this surgery was quite painful. I remember waking up after the surgery and being in a lot of pain & crying. Again the worst part was the gas that was still trapped in my body from the surgery. A had a lot of shoulder pain from it & when I would roll over in bed the gas would roll too and that really hurt. This recovery took me a good week. I had it on a Monday & I think I felt like myself again on Sunday.
I guess it really just depends. Just make sure you stock up on some gas x. I have my next lap scheduled for Dec. 21st & they are doing it robotically. I have never had a lap done robotically. Do you know if yours will be done robotically? They say that its a quicker recovery time.
Oh and the incisions they make for a lap are very tiny and you can barely see the scars on my tummy. They went in through my belly button and on my right and left side. My belly button is a little weird now. It has never looked the same as it did before but its not really ugly or anything just different. I hope this helps you get prepared but does not scare you.

I'm sorry for your loss and thank you for posting this. Yesterday I decided to do lap and hysteroscopy because one tube is blocked (as per the HSG I had last week) and my cervix is a bit misshapen, which apparently can restrict blood flow to a fetus. The only "alternative" to lap was to try IUI again and hope that if I got a BFP it didn't become ectopic, but since that doesn't sound like a risk worth taking (and again, I'm so sorry to hear that's how things turned out for you), I'm going in for surgery in two weeks.
Fingers crossed that for all of us doing lap it will make things easier and safer after we recover!
I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. I had a lap and a D&C (for polyps) back in July. It took me about a week to recover from the lap and feel like myself again. Make sure you wear some comfy clothes because afterward you will feel bloated from the gas. I also recommend taking a pillow in the car so you can wear your seat belt home and it doesn't rub on your incisions. Keep ice on your incisions. Also, you may want to purchase a heating pad if you don't have one because I found that to be the only thing that relieved the gas pain in my shoulders.
Good luck with your surgery! If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me!
IVF #1 with ICSI - ER 1/20 (16R, 12M, 10F), ET 1/23 (1-10 cell and 1-8cell transferred), BFP on 1/31 Beta #1 on 2/3 = 68, Beta #2 on 2/6 = 261 EDD 10/12/12
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. The little things (heating pad, pillow, gas-x) are things I never would have thought of to maximize my comfort! Just knowing some things to expect has already eased some fears. The only surgery I've ever had before was for my wisdom teeth so I am kind of scared.
huco- I am not sure if it will be a robotic surgery!
mrskennifer & bbn2012- good luck with your laps!
