Trouble TTC

New Plan

So I met with my RE today for a discussion. She laid out all the options. 1. continuing with Clomid and IUIs; 2. Femara and IUIs; 3. Injectables and IUIs; 4. a Lap; and 5. IVF.

So with those options on the table, I knew that another Clomid round was out as well as IVF since I feel that there is so much in between that we can try. DH and I had discussed doing a round of Femara before going to injectables. A Lap is something that scares me with being under anesthesia and all so we are going to wait on that for a little. I did sign up for an injections class on 12/12 so that if we go that direction I already have that taken care of.

Long story short, we are going to try one round of Femara starting tomorrow, monitoring on 11/28, trigger 11/29, and IUI#3 hopefully on 11/30. If that does not work for us, then we will either start an injectable cycle with IUI or do a Lap and then start injectables with IUI (depending on the results).

If you read all that, thank you!! You ladies are fabulous :)  Any thoughts or advice on Femara or the Lap is appreciated!

Re: New Plan

  • I reacted very poorly on Clomid, but have ovulated every month on Femara.  So welcome to the dark side!  I had a lot less side effects and better response on Femara.  I hope you see the same.  GL!

  • Hopefully you will see good results with the Femara!  But if you don't after a couple cycles, I would recommend a lap.  Laps aren't as scary as they seem :) Good luck!

  • I never took Clomid. I started straight away on Femara, and I haven't had any bad experiences other than one month my period was super super heavy. Femara works better at thickening your lining, so apparently it worked really well on me. Other symptoms have been sore nipples after O and cramping in the 2ww.

As for the lap, it wasn't bad for me at all, but I've had surgery before. I know it can be scary to go under anethesia, but the procedure is short and the recovery is only a few days. If you decide to go this route, I can give you more details.

  • Femara is great and if you've been ovulating on Clomid, you'll probably have good results on Femara. Why is the lap being considered? Do you have endo symptoms etc or is it just because you've had BFNs with the IUIs? Just wondering. :) Good luck!

Thank you!! I think the lap is being considered because of the negatives and to rule out other issues. I have no symptoms of endo so that's also part of the reason we are holding off for now.

  • Sounds like a great new plan! My RE recommended a lap after 3 failed IUIs just to check things out and make sure there were no other underlying issues. Its really not that big of a deal either!
