Boston Babies

Beth Israel or MGH?

Hi all,

We're moving to Boston tomorrow (eeek!) and need a new ob.  I'm specifically looking for an MFM as I have a high-risk pregnancy (twins sharing a placenta).  I've narrowed it down to MGH or Beth Israel.  Any opinions on which is better?

Beth Israel is a little more inconvenient but the practice I would go to (Boston MFM) seems a bit easier to navigate.  I'm having trouble so far getting through to someone at MGH who can help me find the right doctor -- but I do like that some of their doctors see patients in Danvers for u/s (which I have to have every two weeks).  I also want to research if I pick a dr at MGH, who else I might see when my dr is unavailable (like...are they all one "practice" or within the 54 doctors listed on the MGH website, is that list made up of a few practices (can't tell!))

Thanks for any thoughts!!

Re: Beth Israel or MGH?

  • I see Dr.Rodriguez at BI and there are only two other doctors currently working with her. However they do have fellows but you always see the attending. I have found MGH difficult to get into for OB related things. However if you are looking for a PCP I had the best doc ever at MGH Patricia Gibbons. The only reason she is no longer my doc is I changed insurance.

  • I had a wonderful experience at BI, and I also had a few appointments at Boston MFM...  highly recommend it. :) Good luck.
  • Not to through you for a loop but I worked a family (I am a home care nurse) with a mom who had her twins, with twin to twin transfusion at St. Elizabeth's. She is an expert in twin pregnancy and placental problems. If you would like I can get her informations.
  • I see Dr. Packard at MGH but check out Dr. Laura Riley at MGH for high-risk complications. I lucked out getting Dr. Riley for a consultation to rule out any special tests needed, etc. based on past medical history. She was great.

  • I just recently delivered at MGH and had Dr. Riley for a high risk pregnancy.  She was FANTASTIC! There were 2 times I had to see another one of the high risk doctors but they were great as well.  Everything that you may need during an appointment is all right there.
  • MGH, hands down. Look at MGH West for OBs - fantastic practice.
  • I also see Lori Berkowitz @ MGH West.  I am still awaiting my first OB appointment but initially started seeing her a few years ago thinking that someday I would want to deliver at MGH.  Two of my friends have delivered there (one of them twice) and have had nothing but great things to say!
