Pregnant after a Loss

Thanks Xoladiebug! :)

I did some thinking after your post the other day about cloth diapering.  I read the blogs and started some research and I think it might be the way to go.  Right now I am looking for any excuse to save money after LO is born so I can stay at home for a while.

Now I just need to get DH to go along with this.  My mom is all for cloth diapering so I am sure she could help me convince him.  Is your DH on board?  Any other ladies want to weigh in?

Re: Thanks Xoladiebug! :)

  • LOL, unfortunately my DH isn't on board yet...maybe ever.  He thinks it's too much work, but I'm all about saving money right now.  I talked to a male coworker who cloth diapers their daughter and he said that they have had ZERO blow-outs with the cloth diapers.  Of course their daycare won't do cloth so they have to buy some disposable for during those times when she's at daycare.  But he said the savings is still noticeable.  Another thing he mentioned is his daughter hasn't had any problems with diaper rashes etc while cloth diapering.  He also heard somewhere that kids that are cloth diapered are likely to potty train earlier or easier...can't remember.

So yeah, I've got some convincing to do!  But I'm glad you were inspired ;o)

  • My sister cloth diapered her first son for a few months.  (Don't know why she stopped.  She is a SAHM.)  I am going to show DH what she has and how easy they look when we head down to her place next week.  I did read somewhere that you can get a note from your doctor that your LO needs to be CD and most daycares will honor it.

I think I am leaning toward the Fuzzibuns and Charlie Banana's.  They had some pretty awesome reviews and when we go out shopping or visiting family, I can just get the disposable liners.

Xoladiebug, if I figure out the perfect words to convince DH, I will let you know.  I think I may be able to get him to come around if I show the savings.  Money talks, right?

My DH is 100% NOT onboard with cloth diapering...I figure I have at least 5 more months to convince him!

His concern isn't the effort...his concern is baby poop in his washing machine (he honestly thinks we need to buy a 2nd washing machine if we plan to CD...um, honey...yeah). I tried explaining about the breastmilk stuff not being bad and using a toilet sprayer later, but I don't think he gets it yet.

I just bought that book that was recommended the other day (the hip mom's whatever) so hopefully something in there will help convince him.

You should show him that the toilet sprayer from bum genius is only $44.99 or close to that.  Totally worth it!  And I need to get that book!  Gonna look on my kindle fire to see if they have it on there for a reasonable price.

My biggest piece of advice would be to order a pocket or AIO and show them. My SIL thought I was nuts until she saw that we aren't talking cloth prefolds with pins and rubber pants over them. Even if you're planning on using mostly prefolds/covers, once they see it can be super easy for them (which is probably what they're most concerned about) they probably won't harass you about it. Your husband can treat AIOs and pockets just like disposables, just emphasize that it will be a little more work for you, but not really any different for him except he'll put the diaper in a wetbag instead of the trash. Good luck!

My coworker offered to bring some in for me to look at (though I've seen a lot online).  Maybe I'll see if I can take it home to show DH because I think he'd be surprised too.  Good idea Aluenna!

  • We decided last year before the mm/c, but still plan on doing it.  H was pretty easy to convince just based on the green/environmentally friendly factor.  Diapers don't biodegrate (all the plastic) so think of how many you may go through in 2-3 yrs and multiple that by all the people that have kids...  That was his point and probably the biggest seller.  Also the $ savings is a nice perk.  I also really like the benefits that ladiebug stated about less diaper rash (no plastic on your baby's privates), less blowouts, and the ability to double up (if using inserts) for nighttime which keeps baby drier and sleeping longer...

I agree with Aluenna about checking them out first, especially the AIO... they are essentially the same thing.

Thank you so much!   I just went through all the Faq's and now I think I am armed with some pretty good info to convince DH!  You ladies are just the best!

  • Fwiw- DH and I both LOVE cloth diapering Quinn. We are doing it for a number of reasons- cost, environmental reasons, and not wanting all of the chemicals up against our baby's skin. I will be going back to work and she is either going to daycare or staying home with DH (we haven't decided yet). CD'ing is as easy as doing a load of laundry every day or two (depending on how many diapers you have in your stash). We could make it three days but I have been washing daily because it's super easy. I'm EBF so it's all going into the wash.

She seems way happier in cloth than she was in the disposables at the hospital. It's less mess to throw away (we are also using cloth wipes) and I'm not constantly looking for a trash can when we are out and about. They don't stink at all either which makes it even easier. Trust me, it will take about two days for your DH to get used to being puked/peed/pooped on. DH and I are both changing our clothes multiple times a day. After that the thought of putting poop in your washer becomes pretty easy to deal with.
