how much coffee?

If any are you drinking? I had a major aversion to it for a long time but my desire to have a small latte from starbucks is driving me nuts!! Is anyone drinking coffee?  I have looked up the caffeine amounts in some of my favorite coffee drinks and its under 200 mg in all of them (if I get a small!) so I am wondering if I should treat myself once or twice a week?!?!

Re: how much coffee?

  • I did not drink in the beginning of pregnancy but now drink a small or small can of coffee almost every day.  I just cannot function without it.  I know there under 200 ml but my doctor did not give me any restrictions on food...

  • During the first tri I only had one cup of coffee a day and sometimes a little soda in the afternoon if I was really tired.

Now I still have my one cup of coffee, but some mornings I switch it up and will get a starbucks latte.  I looked it up and a grande latte only has 150 mg of caffeine.

My rule is that I just try to keep it under 200 mg a day.  I would go for it and treat yourself to some starbucks!

ETA: I just looked it up again to check and a grande coffee from starbucks has 330mg of caffeine! I never realized it was that much, I always though the lattes had more caffeine.  That's crazy to me!
  • I have a mug of coffee every morning!!! Do this time and did with both pregnancies before. The mug holds two measuring cups of coffee which is just about 200mg I tried halfcafe coffee last time and it just didn't cut it, and gasp I do not limit my chocolate intake Smile

  • I would feel comfortable drinking 1 large mug of coffee per day.  (Say 12oz or so).  Because even if it were really strong, it would definitely be under 200 mg of caffeine based on some calculations I did a while back.  Coffee's been upsetting my stomach though.   So this morning, I mixed half a mug of hot chocolate with half a mug of coffee, and it was just what I needed on this chilly day!

  • I am still drinking one mug of brewed coffee each morning. It's about 12 oz. Once I found out I was pregnant, I went from almost a pot a day to one cup. I am hoping that once the babies are here I will be able to keep it to one a day, but I do love my coffee :)

Lattes have very little coffee in them that's why there is so much less caffeine they are mostly milk or cream and sugar and flavoring. Plus if any one doesn't want to have caffeine at all Starbucks will make them decaf which is what I always get since I use up my caffeine allotment for the day in the morning.

  • I drink coffee/caffeine about two times a week. I asked my doc. and she said it was fine. Go for it!

  • I cut out coffee completely so far, just because I have a strong (although mostly irrational) fear of miscarriage.  I'm at high risk for miscarriage because of a number of reasons, so for me, it just wasn't worth it to have any.

My OB has actually encouraged me to start drinking it again because of the horrible headaches that I get every day.  As I head into the second trimester, I'll probably relax a little and have it a couple times a week.  I cannot WAIT for a peppermint mocha from Starbucks!

  • I don't drink coffee generally but I live off of tea.  It was the one thing I was not willing to give up or even be particularly restrictive about, although I try to keep in mind that it should be a semi-reasonable amount.  I would say I now average about 4-5 cups a day which is in the 200mg-300mg of caffeine, although it can vary a lot from one type of tea to another.
