Where (online) do you research areas to live?

Asking for a friend...

I know that greatschools.org is a good site for comparing and getting info on schools.  But what about when a person is searching for the "right" community to move to?  Is there a site that compares suburban towns with regard to demographics, culture, schools, politics, etc.?  I have always used the chamber of commerce site when I'm researching a particular community to move to, but that's not helpful when someone is trying to find a city/town to live in and they're unfamiliar with the area.

Any help is appreciated!  TIA!

  • I would try redfin.com or citydata.com (forum section). They will probably have to do some searching on there but I think info can be found. Even though redfin is more real estate I would think some of the regular posters over there may be helpful.

  • I asked the nest when we moved from Dallas to San Jose. And then I used City Data from there.
