When do you normally...

in July 2012 Moms
get blood drawn for HCG levels? Does everybody get this done at the first appointment? I'm just wondering because my gynecologist (who is also in obstetrics) can't see me until the 29th because he is out on vacation...I *think* I'm about 4 weeks along, but I'm not totally sure. I could probably see one of his colleagues, but is it necessary to go sooner than this?

    Most doctors don't do this unless they have reason to suspect that there may be an issue, or you've been undergoing fertility treatments.

    I went in on Monday and today. I already had an appt set for Monday so he ordered them for me then but I believe you can have your dr order them for you over the phone. I have Kaiser so I get to see my results just hours after.

    I got my HGC levels tested along with progesterone levels right after my first appointment that was on 11/8. I went in on 11/15 and he sent me for all my prenatal tests. I go in tomorrow for an ultrasound to see how far along I am. I'm estimated to be 5-6 weeks. So it's really up to you if you want to go in sooner and start getting some of the tests done, but i don't think it'll be a big deal if you wait until then.

    Like PP said, they normally only do them if there's been prior issues.  I, for one, being a FTM whose mother and aunts had fertility issues have been demanding they be done for my own piece of mind.  I want them and I'm paying for them, so I've been making them do them!

    I had them done (requested them) only because of a chemical pregnancy in April.  I had first set drawn on Monday and second set done today and I'm 4 weeks.

    Side note, are you a nurse?  I'm just going off your screen name.  If so, I am too!

    this is my first pregnancy and there are no issues so far/no reason to think there will be any, and they drew blood at my first appointment. 4 little vials of it!
