When I was a kid, Santa officially arrived in town at the end of the Thanksgiving Day parade. I don?t remember seeing Santa before then. I remember that we didn?t get our Santa pics taken until December.
One of my local malls was decorated for Christmas before Halloween even got here and Santa was in his seat come 11/2, and I found myself so aggravated by this. Um, maybe irrationally annoyed applies here. And the more I heara about stores opening up Thanksgiving night for shoppers?sigh.
I guess the idea is to put consumers in a spendy mood, but it does the opposite for me. I can't get into the sales. Spite my wallet to respect the turkey & fall season, I guess.
So yeah, I do agree--I think it's weird that Santa's here already. It does seem kind of wrong.
Re: NPR - So, is it weird that Santa's here?
Rush, rush, rush...why are we always rushing through life? I find it really irritating too. I want to enjoy the upcoming holiday first! And as soon as the Christmas stuff comes down, they'll be pushing the Valentine's Day candy.
In fact, I don't decorate at home until about 2 weeks before Christmas, which seems really late compared to the rest of the world.
There's some hope: Nordstrom's will NOT be rolling out anything Christmas until the day after thanksgiving!!
My hats off to them!
(we don't decorate much - my DD's birthday is 12/15 and we go out of town on 12/21 every year - no Christmas until AFTER DD's birthday and since we leave...we don't put much effort into it)
