Babies: 0 - 3 Months

If your LO sleeps ALL the way through the night, please come in

Was it a gradual process (over the course of several weeks) did it happen quickly (over a period of a week), or was it all of a sudden (3 hr stretches one day and then all through the night the next day)?

  • For us it happened pretty quickly.   Our LO went from getting up once around 4-5am to eat to sleeping until 7:30-8am....I think it happened over the course of about a week.

  • for us it was pretty gradual.  8 weeks she was doing at least two 4-5hr stretches and then she was doing 5.5hrs and then the day of her 2 month bday she did 8-9 hr stretches for 1 week.  Then she was back to 5-6 hr stretches and then she would start STTN (8-10) every other night.  Now she pretty much STTN every night.  Sometimes she will wake at 4 am for a feeding, but that is after sleeping 8 hr straight b/c she goes down by 8pm.  The other nights she goes 10-11hr straight.  I don't think any baby always STTN with growth spurts and just bad days.  When parents say their child STTN I take it with a grain of salt....as they have done and do it, but it's def not every night.

  • It just happened for us. We weren't trying to get her to do it or anything she was just ready I guess. She will be 3 months on the 23rd and she's been doing it since she was 2 months.
  • It sort of happened over time for us...  DD started sleeping 4-5 hour stretches at night at 5 weeks.  At 6 weeks she was going 6-8 hours and then by 10 weeks she was going 9-11 hours at night.  Once she started sleeping longer we hardly had any regressions in her sleep pattern, so it wasn't a lot of back and forth with her.

For the past week, she's been pretty consistent - bedtime routine starts between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. and lasts about 45 minutes from start to finish (bath, massage, PJ's, bottle, bed) and then she sleeps until around 7 or 8 a.m.

  • For us it was quickly, at 9 weeks she started sleeping about 7 hours I think, then around 12 weeks it was 10-12 hours. There's been a few nights it's been even longer that that but she's pretty consistant with the 12 hours stretch.

  • It was gradual for us. At 2 1/2 weeks, LO would sleep from about 8:30pm to 2-3am. Slowly it stretched to around 4am and then by 6 weeks we got sporadic nights where he went until 6:30/7am. After his 2 month shots it took a couple weeks for him to get his nights back on track. Since around 9 1/2 weeks he has been consistently sleeping from about 8/8:30pm to 7/7:30am.

  • For us he went from sleeping from 8-1 then 2-5 or 6am at 6 weeks to 8 to 3-4 at weeks, and now at 12 weeks, he sleeps from 7-8pm to 5-6am. Sometimes he makes hunger sunds at 1-2 and I give him a paci and soothe him while keeping him in RNP.

  • It happened all of a sudden for me. One night she was waking up every 3 hours to eat, and we had trouble getting her back to sleep. The next night she woke up every 3-4 hours and went right back to sleep after her feeding. Then the very next night she slept 8 hours, and it has increased ever since then. She gave us 8, then 9, then 10, and now she has been sleeping for 11 hours religiously for about a month now. Love it!
