So Collin's rash is back. Damn! It has only been gone for about 5 days and today it returned. I am so frustrated.
We stopped giving him juice thinking that was the culprit, (He only got it maybe once a week before we took it away totally) He has been eating about 4 apple slices per day. He is currently drinking whole cow's milk only before nap and bed at night. Otherwise he only gets water in a sippy. He does not have regularly runny stools that would normally make me think illness, teething, allergy, excess of a certain food.
So I guess my question is: Could it be a cow's milk allergy or a lactose problem that is messing with his stools that are then irritating his sckin and giving the rash? I knew Cooper had an issue with cow's milk when he had never had a solid bowel movement by the age of two. Then labwork revealed an allergy. Current labs show no allergy. Fine whatever...I am keeping him on almond milk. Collin is a different story...he has had solid bowls. I just dont know what to think or where to begin searching for the root of the problem.
WDYT???

The funny thing with Cooper being on almond milk is that that is really the only thing we changed. He still gets cheese and yogurt in moderation. Too much and he has really soft stools. When his labs were done around age two he showed a milk, egg white and peanut allergy. We recently had them redone and nada..no allergeries..per the labwork. Now also know that we never took him off peanuts..he eats peanut butter daily. No reactions.
Yeast? I honestly do not know how to "rule it out" is it a test? Does he need to see the pedi?
DS has a dairy allergy that was discovered at 6 months. This also applied to soy (about 1/2 of people with dairy allergies can't tolerate soy). That being said, after he reached 12-15 months he was able to eat yogurt and cheese without any problems. Milk (cows milk or soy) was another story. We dealt with rashes, stool issues (runny stools in addition to constipation), as well as a lot of gas and overall discomfort.
Does he eat yogurt or cheese at all? We were told to actually try him out only on yogurt before milk or cheese to test his tolerance since its easier to digest and he did fine. I will say that after we tried him on milk and realized he still had a slight problem with it, it took almost a week and a half to get rid of the rash and get back to normal. Dairy can take weeks to leave your system.
I would say completely cut out dairy for 2 weeks to see if there is any change. If it clears up, that's what it was. If not, slowly introduce it back and eliminate something else.
Intolerances won't show up on most allergy (blood) tests. They stool sample for them.
For yeast, I'd just try putting raw coconut oil (Nutiva brand, available at Raley's and Nob Hill) on the rash for a few days and see what happens. If it goes away, it could be yeast. If not, it's probably not yeast.
