annie is a spitter. she spits up a lot. it doesnt phase me much b/c
lily was a spitter and outgrew it. annie isnt outgrowing it. sometimes her
teachers frankly seem a bit bugged about how often it happens and that
has made me feel like a crappy mom.
she is growing great, staying on the same curve. about 85% height, 50% weight.
every time i look at 'spit up' special formulas the first ingredient is
corn syrup and frankly i'd rather clean up spit up then just shove corn
down my kid's throat all day, so i didn't switch her. the sensitive
formulas dont help.
well today i gave in and bought a soy formula. i haven't given her
dairy all day. i fed her soy formula at noon and then at 5:30pm. she
then ate dinner and promptly puked the whole dinner. i mean puked, not
spit up. puked.
WTF. what do i do now? keep giving her the soy or could this be a soy
issue to begin with? the only other place she gets soy is from
morningstar sausages in the morning and from edamame.
HELP!!! advice?!
Re: formula, soy, dairy. confusion. i need advice!!
My kids were happy spitters. Jakob's daycare was a little annoyed about it but since his doctor kept saying it was fine, I didn't do anything it.
I was home with Layna and got really sick of changing my shirt constantly. I started mixing oatmeal - rice just constipated her - into her formula. I'd make batches in the blender. I had to use the Y shape nipples specially for cereal added. She still spit up just as often but it wasn't as much. And it was thicker so it wasn't like someone dumped out a bottle, it was just a bit of spit up.
I wouldn't keep giving her soy. There's no need to, the spitting up isn't a dairy problem. Some kids just puke a lot.
Is she happy? If she does not have other symptoms, does not seem uncomfortable and is growing well I would not think that she has a dairy intolerance. I don't know about the puking--can't that happen when you change a child's formula?
So they have to clean her up a bit more--it is fine! You are a great mom--do not think that because she is spitting up they think that you are a bad mom!
For what it is worth, RTF Alementum is the only dairy free corn free formula.
You are not a bad mom, figuring out a potential food intolerance/allergy is very difficult.
Is she a happy spitter? Are her bm's normal? We have a ton of allergies, soy being the worst. Many dairy formulas also contain soy, maybe that is the culprit? If lil man ingests dairy, soy or oats there is noticeable discomfort and always vomiting.
We recently quit BF and are now using neocate. It is corn syrup based but is the gentlest option out there and contains the most broken down soy proteins. It is $$ but after a visit with Dr. Riedy she gave us a few free samples to help out with the cost. In addition, if it is deemed medically necessary, insurance in TX will cover elemental formula.
Hope she feels better soon!
what kind of soy formula? ;-) If it's Similac, I'll take it!
its enfamil prosobe soy. i'll keep it for a day or two. if anyone wants it, email me! mollie@bloom austin .com
