MH has 350,000 count, 0% motility. He is currently taking clomid to hopefully help with his counts and motility. In order for us to do IUI how much would his motility need to improve? I know every doctor is different, but I thought I would see if there is general area they like the counts to be at. I know my RE will go over all that and give me our options on the 28th, but that just seems so far away.

Re: MFI?
I'm sorry you're dealing with this.
My RE usually won't recommend IUI unless the count is around 10 million. I'm not sure on the motility requirement though.
I hope the Clomid helps get your DH where he needs to be. GL!

No, we havent done the 2nd SA yet. I thought the urologist would want MH to do that to make sure first, but he put him on clomid since EVERYTHING was low. We will do another one in Jan, so I'm hoping on that one they will come back and say the 1st one must have just been a bad sample. A girl can hope right
Every RE is different, so they all have different numbers they use as a cut-off for doing IUI instead of IVF. My RE wanted to see 10 million sperm and at least 50% motility. However, the days we went in for our IUIs he only had 7 million for one, and a wopping 2 million for theother one. They still did it, but obviously they didn't work for me.
Honestly, when we had a million sperm in the beginning of this whole process for us over a year ago, with 20% motility, we were told that we only qualifies for IVF with ICSI. We spent a year trying to get our counts up and we are back to where we started. I don't tell you this to get you down, I just want you to be realistic that you may have to do IVF. However, I hope the clomid works and you are able to get your take home baby with IUI. GL!
TTC since March/April 2010
DX: MFI - less than 1 million sperm, 26% motility
DH put on anastrozole to increase counts
June/July 2011 100 mg Clomid + TS IUI#1 & IUI 2 - BFN :-(
Forced break due to DH getting spinal surgery in August 2011
IVF - January 2012: BFN
FET in April 2012 - BFP at 6dp5dt! Beta #1 at 9dp5dt: 82.5, Beta #2 at 12dp5dt: 352 Beta #3 at 19dp5dt: 6000, saw heartbeat and one little bean at 5W6D!
After nearly 3 years of waiting our LO was born December 18th 2012!
Also, just remember that it takes sperm about 72 days to mature so make sure you repeat the SA at least that many days after starting the clomid if you want to see if it made any difference! We did this, too, not thinking it made much difference. MH's SA about 60 days into the clomid- count was 10 mil, motility 40% (I believe). We went back at day 73 of the clomid and count was 26 mil (the highest he's ever had) and motility back to his norm of 75% (or motility issue is that while their tails move, they cannot propel them forward). Obviously everyone is different but I hope the clomid helps him! Good luck
