January 2012 Moms

work vent

So I am the only Admin in my office.  I have so many responsibilities besides the normal order office supplies, shipping, etc.  I've apparently become the office mother.  Not one person in my office cleans up after themselves (we have a dishwasher) and they STILL leave the effing dishes in the sink after I've asked everyone to clean up after themselves AND put a sign up about putting dishes in the washer!  I just had to change the code to the door lock and no one is even trying to remember the new code, they just knock on the door and I have to get up to let them in.  I sent out the new code in an email and I feel like no one even bothered to read it because they know I'll just let them in.  I feel completely taken advantage of in my office and I can't wait to go out on maternity leave!!!  Vent over, thanks.

I would change it again right before I left... But I'm kinda passive-aggressive like that!

I'm sorry you are dealing with a bunch of children.

  • I'm on the same boat. Just keep telling myself few more weeks, few more weeks. January can't come here fast enough! I have my own son at home to take care of, why do I wanna take care of more at work!

  • Stop letting them in when they knock. And also, write a note stating that if the kitchen doesn't get cleaned up, you will be throwing stuff out if it sits for too long dirty. And actually throw sh!t out! Its the only way they will learn.

  • At my office all dishes left in the sink or on the counter are put into a cardboard box.  At the end of the week the stuff in the box is tossed (there was a note saying this would happen).  After one week people stoped leaving their messes around.

  • I am in the same boat.... My office has been like that with the dishes for a while now. We don't have a dish washer and really the only dishes that are left back there are either a few cups/bowls that belong to the office or their personal things. Yet they still leave them in the sink to be washed (by who, your guess is as good as mine) and then complain about the "kitchen not being cleaned at night". Well, excuse me for having the state of mind that 1.) I'm not married to any of them, 2.) no where in my job discription does it say that I am to be the office maid, and 3.) I'm sure their moms have taught them basic cleaning skills. I used to clean it up but it didn't take long for me to say screw that...those dishes will sit in that sink for a week before the user or owner of the dish realizes that I'm not going to clean up after them and then they take care of it themself.

  • Same boat with me too.  BUT I work in a family business.  And guess who leaves dishes in the sink the most?

My Dad!  My Boss!  And I have to do his dishes!

    LOL.

That's all you can do laugh.  At them. At everyone.

Agreed! Did this at my office with stuff left in the fridge without being labeled and getting moldy. Took about 2 weeks and they all caught on. And don't open the door for them!! Act like you were on the phone if they ask you why you didn't let them in....that's just laziness on their part and you're just encouraging it!
