S/O What names did you nix?

What names were proposed that you wouldn't name your child?

Re: S/O What names did you nix?

  • Dh's name...which is really his father's name. I refused to have a "Trey" if we had a boy. Luckily DH was on board with me....AND we had a girl so we didn't have to have that conversation with his dad. :)

  • I didn't nix the name, but I requested that Jack go by a nickname of his middle name rather than his first. I am notafan of Jack's full name, but I understood that it was very important to my DH to name our first son after his dad.

  • Of course, my husband suggested his name and his middle name.  To which I laughed.

mlf will feel me on the MN part.

  • Randomly, DH told me he liked the name Alyssa.  Nope.

Also, my coworker is a major pop culture/ history junkie and she can tell me about the 30's starlet who committed suicide that had a name I liked, so I plan on running everything by her so I can be prepared.

    OMG. You win.

Like I said in my previous post, we disagree more often and strongly about girls names. I nixed: Kara, Taylor, Amber, Kendra, Samantha and I'll probably nix Landry but it's his #1 choice so I don't want to deflate him completely.

  • Well, the girl name wasn't up for debate.  :)  It's my I've-always-wanted-to-name-my-child-this name and he didn't even suggest anything else.

Now boys names...  Oh dear.  His top choice was Alexander (Alex or Xander) but I had a *really* negative experience with a student by that name.  Now that I'm a bit more removed from the situation, I might consider it if we ever manage to have baby #2.  His other top choice?  Conner.  I like it, but not for my kid KWIM?  He however refused to let that bother him and referred to our baby as Conner until our US when we discovered she was a girl.  We might have come to blows if Kate had been a boy.  :)

  • Phoenix.  He said it was "great for a boy or a girl!"  Indifferent
  • Well, DH and I are set on a girl name--its another "I've always wanted to name my daughter this" name and he accepted that. We can't agree on a boy name, though. He has always suggested ridiculous stuff like Master, and I can never tell if he's joking or not (a constant struggle for me). But one night we were throwing around names, and he suggested Sebastian. Playing, I responded "Well, then you might as well name him Atreyu". Um, he really likes the name Atreyu now, even though it's no where near a real name. I'm praying this is a girl. We will fight to the bitter end over a boy name!!

(PS--yes, I know the character's name was Bastian, but in the moment, I had forgotten)

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Magnus for DS#1.  He swears he was kidding about it, but I'm not so sure.  Oh, and MIL's name before we found out that DS #2 was a boy.  Heck no.

    :-)

  • My husband is a HUUUUUGE Harry Potter fan. We almost named DD Lily - not after the flower, but after Harry Potter's mother. At the last second we decided that the name was too popular and chose something totally different.

According to DH, our next child will be a son, and he will be named....wait for it.....

    Sirius.

    As in Sirius Wild.man.

DH is dead set on this and as of now not budging. Until this issue is resolved, I'm not getting knocked up.

  • Ashley and Katherine (his sister is Katherine).
  • DH kept proposing names after some of his sports heroes that I thought sounded like stodgy, old farts, like Lewis (Lewis Hamilton) and possibly George (George Best). He may have proposed Nigel (after Nigel Mansell), but I think even he thought that was too British.  There was one particularly awful one that horrified me, but now I can't think of it.  Probably blocked it out.  Veto. Veto. Veto.

Thank you for keeping this from happening.  Roadhouse?!?!?

All I can think of is Patrick Swayze saying "Pain don't hurt."

  • Amaranta and Remedios. DH really loves 'Remedios.' It means 'remedies' in Spanish, and is the name of a character in 100 Years of Solitude. And yet it just sounds like "remedial" to most non-Spanish speakers.
