  If I had to do it over I would have picked out a metal xylophone (a glockenspiel) since the wood one does not make good sounds, and would have stuck to the Plan Toys drum (which was hard to find and ended up arriving after the other drum).  DS used to make music every day but it's taken a back seat to other interests lately.  When we do play music we all have a different instrument and it's nice to have an assortment of things to try. 

  Also, we looked and never found a toy horn that got decent reviews so we don't have one.  I wish we did.  If you find one that works, I'd love to hear about it.

  We bought the boys the Handy Manny ukelele when it was on sale at TRU a long time ago. They use that as a guitar and even pretend it's a violin using one of the drumsticks from a little drum we bought. I think we just bought one of the musical instrument kits that had a drum, maracas, tambourine, and other shaker stuff.

  We just got Andrew a Ukulele for his birthday and a friend gave him a harmonica.  Both have been huge hits!

  We also have a pretty basic drum that goes in phases and a couple tamborines that neither boys likes at all. Maracas have been big hits too.

  The harmonic from the Melissa and Doug box was a huge hit with DS.  As was the triangle.  Everything else was relegated to other people to play.

  Oh goodness, we're an instrument family.  I don't know where to start.  In our home all instruments are available to the kids, with some caveats about taking care of high quality instruments, like the guitars, drum kit, and piano.  In the kids' bin there are: triangles, cow bells, egg shakers of all sizes, castanets, a wide assortment of percussion things that may or may not have names , kazoos, harmonicas, bongos (to be upgraded to a dumbek this year), bodhran (Irish drum), ukelele, and a mini accordion (adding at Christmas this year, look out Weird Al).
