2nd Trimester

Gonna try some Prenatal Yoga today

Has anyone else tried it?  DId you enjoy it?  I used to do regular yoga, a few years back, then I left the place I was going to because it was close to my job and I got let go.  (Also, I'm lazy, lol).

I'm really hoping to meet some friends/moms!  I know my chiropractor and my acupuncturist here.  That's it.  hehe

Re: Gonna try some Prenatal Yoga today

  • I do regular yoga- once per week and I feel great afterward, but as a former yogi I get frustrated that I can't do what I could when I wasn't preggers. I've done prenatal yoga and IMO, it's just like regular yoga but not challenging at all. That doesn't sound all so bad to me right now though :)

  • I just signed up for a class that starts after Thanksgiving, I can't wait!

  • I have been doing prenatal yoga for a couple weeks now .. twice a week. I did yoga before for about three years.

My instructor definitely doesn't let us use the "pregnancy" card to get out of building up a sweat or making sure we get a could work out. Granted the stretching and relaxing do take up more time in this class compared to my previous classes. I find it a good balance.

There is only five of us but we get along fabulously and whine and laugh about the life of a pregnant person. The first 15 minutes of class is talking and gabbing so we always go late.

    Enjoy!

  • I went to prenatal yoga throughout my last pregnancy, and just started going again about 3 weeks ago this pregnancy. It is a matter usually of finding the right class - at the place I go, certain instructors are much harder. Usually you can modify poses to make it harder/easier if you want to. The one issue I have is if there's tons of talking and not a lot of yoga - just depends on the instructor. I will say in both classes I've been to, people kind of kept to themselves other than the introductions, so you'd have to be willing to chat up some people after class to try to actually build relationships.

  • I have been doing yoga intermittently for years and started prenatal at about 8 weeks and it has been therapeutic for my body and my mind. Even if you have no previous yoga experience it is worth a try (I am not in top physical shape). It just stretches me out and calms me down. Our class is definitely chattier than any other yoga class I have been in. The instructor picks a topic but also gives us a chance to bring up anything that is on our mind too. Just wanted to offer some additional perspective since it seems like prenatal yoga classes differ greatly in intensity and support.

     Take care, -M

  • I just got back from my class!  I really liked it.  It wasn't chatty at all!  Surprising, from what you all have shared.  There were 5 people total, and me and one other girl were "newbies"--she was 18 weeks, I'm almost 15.  One lady there was a day past her due date!  I hope she pops soon.  hehe

It wasn't too hard, which is what I always felt when I'd leave yoga and then go back.  I really liked the teacher too--she didn't push too hard, but my wrists are a bit sore from all the downward dogging we did, hehe.  If the girls aren't that chatty as the weeks progress, I guess I will have to make the first move and try to talk to them instead.
