fever antibiotic and wont drink anything...

We were drinking fine last night when her fever first hit.  They are treating it as an upper resp infection because she is so congested....She just won't drink.  Milk, juice, water...any suggestions?  I know it is important.

  • When DS gets like that I have to put it into a syringe, and force it.

  • Popsicles.  It's all my girl would do when she was sick last month.  And only the purple ones, for whatever reason.  We still have all the orange ones left.

  • For us, the popsicles that are posted or really any popsicle or jello.  Also, a nice hot bath with the doors shut works wonders (there's a eucalyptus bath product from Kiss My Face that helps) for making them feel better and open up the nasal passages.  I give the popsicle in the bath!  Vapo-Rub on the chest and soles of feet...and IBUPROFEN (vs. Tylenol) to take down the inflammation.

  • Someone suggested it so I did the ibuprofen instead of tylenol and it made a huge difference.  I also tried the popsicles and he took those before a sippy cup with the pedialyte.  We also used baby vicks on his feet w/socks and rubbed a little on the back inside of his pj top - my ped dr said not directly on the skin or anywhere they can reach and accidentally get it on their hands and touch their eyes.  But when he was really stuffed up, I put it on a hot, wet washcloth under his nose for a couple minutes.  Not sure if all that helped or it just ran its course, but it made him feel a little better, which made me feel lots better!  Hope your LO feels better soon!
  • Try saline drops and bulb syringe before giving something to drink. Cool mist may help too. I've also seen that ibuprofen tends to help fevers and aches more then tylenol. :(
