Anyone else's baby not into finger food yet?

After reading all of the BLW posts I'm starting to think that DD is the only one not doing finger food yet. I've been offering her Puffs, yogurt melts, toast, MumMums, soft cooked veggies etc and she just isn't into it. She'll pick it up but it never makes it's way into her mouth, and even if I feed her myself she immediately spits it out. DS didn't do finger foods until he was closer to 8 months so I know she's totally fine without it, but it sounds like a lot of you have self feeding babies already!

  • DS has only done purees. I haven't even offered Puffs, yogurt, etc. yet. After discussing it with his pedi at his six month appointment, we will probably just keep rolling with what we are currently doing for a while longer.

  • No puffs or any finger foods, only purees and she's been a slow adopter on that, too. She's really only interested in lunch and dinner as meals.

We've only done: oatmeal, rice, apples, pears, bananas, sweet potato, and peas (hated those).

This is us as well. They go for the second dose of the flu shot next week so I'll ask the pedi then if we can/should introduce puffs, Cheerios or other finger foods. I can't remember when we started it all with Christian. I think it was closer to 8 months, which isn't all that far away now, but he also had a couple of teeth by then.

  • DD isn't super into finger foods or she will be into it one day and not the next.  I'm probably making her nervous because I made her chicken the other day and sat 6 inches away from her making sure she was still breathing while she was eating it.  She's getting pretty good at picking up puffs or cheerios but I have to offer them one at a time.  If I put a few on her tray, she will just throw them off and try to feed the dog.

She will also chew on the finger foods but she will not swallow.  That was a challenge with brocolli because even when I thought it was all gone, she still kept hiding it in her mouth, haha!

  • we just started purees at 6 months, so it's only been about a month of food right now, and I can't imagine LO will be doing finger food anytime soon. he's got a good grasp but I think he definitely needs more time before moving forward

  • I haven't offered any and probably won't for a while. She eats purees at lunch and dinner.

  • Ha!  Not even close.  Gabriel isn't really even into purees yet.  We keep offering though.  Kid loves his bottle, lol.

  • The only thing LO has managed to get in his mouth are the Mum Mum when they are still in bigger pieces. A lot of it still ends up stuck to his palms or clothes.  I sometimes put a few puffs on his high chair tray for him to practice and to keep him entertained while I get his food ready.

  • This is probably a stupid question, but how are your LOs chewing mum mums and cheerios, etc into small enough pieces so they don?t choke?  I gave DS a mum mum and he put it straight into his mouth, got a big chunk of it off and I panicked and pulled it out of his mouth.  He looked at me like I was nuts.

  • The mum mums dissolve.  I've always assumed cheerios are safe because they have holes in them?
