2nd Trimester

Belly cream - what are you using?

I want to start using lotion or oil on my belly. I know you can't really avoid stretch marks but I figure keeping that skin moisturized will help when it starts getting stretched.

I really like Burt's Bees so am thinking about the Mama Bee Oil and the Belly Balm. Which one is better? What are you using? I want it to smell yummy.

TIA!

Re: Belly cream - what are you using?

  • I use the belly balm on and off. It is unscented though. And it's REALLY thick, it stays on my skin for a long time before it's absorbed. So it leaves me feeling like I rolled in olive oil or something. But it moisturizes deeper than regular lotion.

On days I don't feel like dealing with feeling the balm all day I just use regular lotion.

  • I use Queen Helene Cocoa Butter Creme for night and Queen Helene Cocoa Butter lotion for the day. I used it with my first pregnancy and got very few not visible stretch marks. Good luck! :)
  • I just use Vaseline Intensive care Coco butter lotion

  • I haven't started using any yet, although I think I should soon because I am starting to get a bump, but Bio Oil has been recommended to me by several people. Apparently it's amazing. I'll definitely give it a try as I get stretch marks really easily!!!

I have never heard of that brand. I'll have to google it.

  • I use Bio-Oil and Cocoa butter from the Body Shop. I put the Oil before I go to bed and the butter in the morning! So far my skin is not itchy at all and no sign of stretch marks...... Crossing my fingers it will stay that way!!!! :)

  • BIO OIL!!!!!!!! Nothing and I mean NOTHING was keeping me moisturized. I just started using Bio Oil twice a day, morning and night and it is a life savor!! You want something with Vitamin E in it!

  • I use Mustela during the day and Basq oil at night.  I used these with my 1st pregnancy and got no stretch marks.
  • I make my own! I did it with my first also, and no streach marks! Not one! I use a combination of coco butter, coconut oil, shea butter infused with and herbal mixture of lavender, calendula and chamomille.  I am sure there are herbal belly butter recipes online... I just do a little of this and little of that! I swear by this, nothing better than homemade. I also put it on one or two times a day, ever since my 1st trimester. Plus this is the most economical, you can usually make a ton of it for the price of store bought.

  • Oh, you can also purchase a high quality vitamin E oil (usually at any health store or whole foods market) and add a few drops of that also into the "homemade version".

  • I've been using Palmer's Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks since about 15 weeks.  I don't have any stretch marks yet (and am really hoping it stays that way!), and I like that even though I can feel the difference on my stomach all day, it doesn't leave it feeling oily.

THIS! The vaseline works wonders, and I mix it with the coco butter. Keeps my skin from being so dry.

  • I use Mother's Blend. It was recommended by a friend and you can find it at whole foods and vitamin stores. I love it so far. It sort of fees warm going on and is a thicker oil so it rubs in really nicely. I am about halfway through my first bottle and started using it around 6 weeks. Loving it!

  • I bought the Belly Balm very early on, but I didn't really care for it.  I may have used it for about a week.  I then switched to Palmer's Stretch Mark Cream, and Baby Oil Gel mixed together.  I really liked this combo and haven't gotten any stretch marks.

I just got some Bio Oil about a week and half ago and so far I like it.  I put it on after I shower, and I still use the Palmer's Stretch Mark Cream in the morning since it's not oily, I don't want it to stain my clothes.  So far I haven't seen any stretch marks, and I am prone to them.  I have stretch marks on my hips from a growth spurt as a teen.

  • Honestly, you can use any thick and rich lotion or oil to keep your belly skin nice and supple to help avoid getting strech marks. All of the pp recommendations are great so you can really take your pick. If you want something that smells yummy, you can use what I use- Carol's Daughter Sugar Dipped Vanilla Body Creme and the matching Sugar Dipped Vanilla All Over Sheen (body oil in a spray). These smell yummy but not overpowering and either one would make your skin super soft too, lol!

  • I really like Mama Mio tummy oil.  It worked really well during my last pregnancy so I'm using it this time around too.  The Congratulations Kit is also nice and they have a Tummy Rub Butter if you don't like oil.

  • @naturegal79: I usually go to my local herb shop and just get a scoop of each type of herb that I want to go into my belly salve. I sometimes get lavender, rose, calendua, chamomille, it just depends what they have. I know Whole Foods has an herb section also... or, I am sure you could order dried herbs online. Then to infuse herbs you just use a mini crock-pot (or something similar) and brew the herbs in coco oil, or melted coco butter until the oil looks like it has absorbed the properties of the herbs. But don't over cook it! If you burn the oil it will not be useful. Just watch it for about 30 minutes or so.... It will make your house smell amazing also! :) Then you have to strain it and it will solidify as it cools...

Here is a link to order good organic herbs online & links to recipes you could use (I don't really follow a recipe, and it comes out great everytime! It is fun and easy!) As you can see, all the recipes are different, that is the fun in making your own belly butter. You can customize it anyway you want! Have fun! If you make some, let me know how it turns out!

Here is the link to a recipe that adds beeswax to thicken the salve... you can do it with or without. If you are using coconut oil, it will still solidfy when it cools...

I love simple ingredients! I use only raw coconut oil but you have inspired me to add a few more simple things. Thanks!
