what do u do when they nap after 6? bf and fell asleep....

typing w 1 hand so sorry in advance....i thot i read somewhere not to let them nap after 6...well ds will only take catnaps during the day (unless hes on me bf...then he could go 2.5 hrs like yesterday )and today by 5:45 he was tired AND hungry which means hes asleep on me right now.  as soon as i ever put him down he usually freaks out and looks for my boob like hes still hungry...if i feed him he vgoes back to sleep....so basically i dont get to move and he sleeps...risking not sleepn @ nite...OR i try to hand him to dh who loves to hold him when home and ds screams...maybe a silly q? do any of u have this problem?  ds is 16 wks

    I haven't heard about this not letting them nap after 6pm thing but I do try to keep the baby awake 2 hours before bedtime. I usually hope she naps from about 6pm-7pm that way we can do bedtime around 9pm.

    That being said I go off of her cues, if she naps later I push bedtime back by an hour- or if she is cranky I pull it up. Our window is anywhere from 830pm to 10pm that bedtime falls.

    Does your son need to nurse to fall asleep? If so he could wake up "hungry" because he is still tired and looking for that comfort to fall back asleep. OR he is falling sleep prematurely during his eating time and in which case maybe try to keep him up for a good full feeding.

    My LO will often nap 5:30 or 6PM and will still go down to bed at ~7/7:30.  He only takes a catnap at that time and usu no more than 30 min.  He's not STTN yet(>8 hrs) although he'll go for anywhere from 5-7 hrs before I need to feed him.  My LO will often fall asleep nursing and with my nipple in his mouth.  I delatch and put him back to sleep. He will still be looking for something to suck though so  I often try to put the paci in as soon as I pull him off.  He stays asleep and I can transfer him back to his crib.  He's only comfort sucking by the time he falls asleep so this might work for you if he takes a paci.
