Austin Babies

what does your 4-year-old daughter like?

are there any on this board?  My niece will be 4 this weekend and she likes: pink, pretty princesses, tea parties and pink.  She likes it so much, I listed it twice.

I'm out of my element when buying for such a girly girl.  For one, I was a tomboy growing up and two, I have 2 boys so going into the girl section of toy stores is overwhelming, to say the least.  Any ideas?

Re: what does your 4-year-old daughter like?

  • My 4 year old goes through girly phases, with things like dress up clothes, polly pockets, and the ever-controversial barbies being big hits.

But she also LOVES arts and crafts stuff.  I think her favorite gifts have been those kits where you get to make something (bracelets, tiaras, wall hangings, etc).

Other characters that are big in the 4 year old girl set are Strawberry Shortcake, My Little Pony, and Olivia.

Another idea is board games--she loves Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, Busytown, etc.

  • she would rather be doing art than anything in the world (other than eating ice cream or p.terrys).  costco has some great art sets and doodle books with stickers.  i dont think you can go wrong with some sidewalk chalk or crayons or stickers!

if you want to do the pink princess route any dress up dress would likely be well received or a felt crown from etsy maybe?

  • DD turned 4 in June, but isn't super girly.  She does love skirts and dresses, though.  Her big thing is arts and crafts.  We had an art themed party with all sorts of activities and she was very into it.  She likes to create, so beading necklaces, paints, and the like are a big hit.  She's getting into books now and LOVES to read. She only does dress up with friends, but then loves to get into princess dresses.
  • DD got a "fancy" (aka- breakable) tea set that came in a fancy little basket and it's one of her favorite things ever.

Also, she just got a princess sleeping bag and pillow that, oddly enough, keeps her occupied for really long periods of time.

She loves her dress up stuff - her faves are the tutu/fairy wings/magic wand combo.

Lots of crafts- those kits are awesome (jewelry, stuff for her room, like butterflies she can decorate, those sun catcher things).

She loves nail polish and lip gloss- even though we try to limit those.

  • Excellent ideas, ladies!  Thank you.  I think I'll go to Hobby Lobby and get a craft set for her and then probably some tea party stuff/princess stuff to round it all out.  Thanks!
