Can you buy pasturized gorgonzola cheese?

I have an appetizer I really want to make for Thanksgiving and it uses gorgonzola cheese.  I know that soft cheeses are okay if they are made with pasturized milk.  I haven't really looked at the grocery store yet, so does anyone know if I can go to a regular grocery store and get pasturized gorgonzola cheese?  My other option is to use goat cheese in the recipe, but that can be tricky too!

  • I'm pretty sure that most cheeses sold in the US are pastureized. You would be hard pressed to find some that isn't. It should say so on the package.

  • I bought some at the grocery store this weekend for some turkey burgers I made.  It was delicious!

  • Any cheese that you find in a mega chain grocery store is going to be pasteurized.  I took a look a few days ago, and my local Shaw's grocery store carried 3 different kinds, so I think you should be all set!  Happy cooking!

Sorry about the duplication - this is true. In a regular grocery store, with products made in USA, you'll be hard pressed to find an unpasteurized product. The first ingredient in all the cheese I have bought is pasteurized milk.

  • If it's pasteurized, you're good to go.

  • Unless you are going to whole foods, most of the cheese will be pasturized. The only places I've ever had to watch it is at whole foods and another local small store that sell speciality cheeses.

  • I found it in the cheese/deli section at my local grocery store... If its made in America, cheese has to pasturized, if it is imported it should be clearly labeled and you would most likely have to go to a specialty store or someplace like Trader Joe's.
