C-sections

My first C-section was under general anesthesia...

Well my first C-section was under general anesthesia, so I was knocked out through the whole thing.  When I awoke I had two boys waiting for me in the NICU.  Here we are 3 years later and I will be delivering via C-section again.  My issue is now I have to deal with the thought of knowing that they are going to cut me while I am awake and that scares the crap out of me lol any advice?
Thanks in advanced <3

  • It is a scary thought!  I know its hard but try not to think of it too much.  When I was in surgery, at first I was so anxious about the baby that I wasn't paying attention to the actual cutting part.  And then once the baby was born, I was just staring at her the whole time.  They will drape you as well and it does make you feel separated from the surgical procedure.  My DH was a big help too, talking to me and keeping my mind off things.  It's not pleasant but you get to see your baby and hear him/her cry right after he/she is born and that is worth being awake for!

  • Honestly, by the time it came to get the surgery started, I didn't care.  There was so much prep to get to that point, my adrenalin was already running high by the time I got into the OR.  I was ready for anything by then.  I was really worried about the anxiety the 2nd time around b/c I was in labor the 1st time, which was distracting.  The anxiety just turned into excitement.  But, for me, it's a little disconcerting to be knocked out and know people are touching me.

  • That was my fear as well. However, once the surgery began I was okay with it. Talking to my doctor at my last appointment was really helpful. She explained how everything would go and calmed some of my fears. One was being tied down and she assured me it wouldn't happen. I think once you get there you'll be glad to be awake for the birth of your baby. Good luck!
