dh (a pedi) is making dd start cereal today. the first solids or anything other than breastmilk that she's had. i'm having a rough time emotionally with this, as well as the logisitics of it. what type of cereal do we start with? rice, oats? how many ounces? i'm no nervous to start!!! any advice?
Re: starting cereal today
We tried oatmeal cereal two weekends ago, when I thought he was starving and needed to start solids (though I plan on BLW). He didn't want anything to do with it. There is a debate about whether cereal is a good choice or not at all. But if you want to try cereal I'd suggest you start with Earth Best's (or any other organic brand and one that says iron fortified) and mix BM with the cereal little by little until you have a paste (the consistency that you want/feel comfortable with). Don't make a lot, I made about two tbsp and LO ate/wore about a tsp of it!
I hear ya about the having a hard time with it. That day I gave him cereal it was like "pretty soon he won't need me at all!" LOL. GL!

DD started cereal at about 4 and a half months. She has it for lunch followed by a 4 oz bottle. I mix a little over a tablespoon of rice cereal with 2 oz of breastmilk. If you don't want it so watery just add more cereal. At 5 months I started adding some baby banana to it for taste. She loved it. It would also make it creamier.
At about 5 and a half months I started giving her the oatmeal kind instead of rice since I noticed she was having a harder time using the restroom. So since then and till now she always gets her paste just for lunch. I have started giving her sweet potatoes though. I need to start giving her a solid for dinner now too.
