OK, so I just put the serial number in for my ipod. Help me understand, it's not definite that I'll get a replacement until I send mine to them? So, if there's nothing wrong, they'll send it back to me? I'm so confused.

Any idea how to back up the songs I have on there? I have so many songs from different computers that not everything is on my current iTunes.

  • I thought that they would send you a packaging thing if yours was eligible?  It seems odd that you would have to send one back otherwise, as they know which serial numbers are affected.

As far as backing up songs, I thought that if you charge/update your ipod on the computer it will transfer all that is on there to your library?  We have switched computers and not lost anything.  Do you charge it on the computer or on a separate charging station?

The funny thing is I stopped at the Apple Store yesterday to see if it would be quicker and 3 out of the 4 "geniuses" had no idea what they are supposed to do with it in the store.  So, I just stuck with the online exchange.

  • I charge mine on my computer or in my car. I know that all of the songs I've gotten from iTunes will be OK, but I don't really like the idea of losing all of the songs I've burned from my CDs. I'll have to take a look later and see what I can do.

I got an email last night that said it should be eligible for replacement, but if not they could charge me up to $100 for a "diagnosis fee". I hope not! I'm starting to wonder if I just should have waited for it to implode, then fork over the cash for a new nano. :-(
