RE says NO INJECTS W/O IVF???

I responded OK to Clomid... multiple smallish follicles [15-18mm] and low P4 [4-10] each cycle.

We did 5 cycles of Clomid before I asked about injectables.  The NP said the only way was if I did IVF because I could have up to 40 eggs.  She annoys me so I just went ahead with the first cycle of femara and then talked to the RE about it when the next cycle started.  He again said, basically, that since I'm "so young" [25] that my egg production is too good... I'd hyper stimulate on the drugs.
He's never pushed IVF [or IUI for that matter] on us.  He's always SO confident that we'll just "hit a pregnancy eventually".  But I think that whole stance is a little outrageous.  Am I wrong?

I'm responding better the the Femara.  I have less follies [1-3] but they are larger [18-27mm] each cycle.  And my P4 levels are better [around 15].
But, I've been there for a year and the only Dx we have is stage I Endo that he said cleared out and shouldn't even be affecting ttc. I'm ready to get more aggressive.

What would you do?  Do you have any information about injectables that I can take to him to help my case?  Should I just stick to his plan of "eventually it will happen this way"?  Should I have DH's SA ran again?  Try a post-coital test?  Have another Lap??

Finding a new RE is out of the picture as he's the only one Tricare covers out here.  So, until we move in 2 years, he's what we've got.

Any help is appreciated:)  TIA!

Re: RE says NO INJECTS W/O IVF???

  • I am 31 and I started with my RE when I was 29.  I also have very good egg quality and I did injectables with IUI.  I did respond very well and ended up with 6 mature follicles.  My RE did let me go ahead with the IUI, except we only did half of the trigger and one IUI instead of back to back ones.  I have now moved onto IVF where I got 10 mature the first time and I got 15 mature the 2nd time.  I did hyperstimulate the 2nd time, but my e2 levels always go very high.  My recommendation to you would be to possibly find and RE that is willing to listen to your concerns and not just say it will happen when it happens.  Espcially if you have a diagonisis.  I hope this helps.

  • Can you do a phone consult with another RE?  A second opinion will at the very least give you piece of mind.

This would be really great.  Do you know how that works?

  • I would just call REs that you would be interested in going to and just call and ask if they do phone consults  I've never done it, but that is how I would go about it.  Lots of luck to you....let us know what happens.

  • I'm no dr, but that just seems like odd advice.  Won't they be monitoring you so they'll know how many follicles you are getting and adjust your dose accordingly?

I did follistim+ ovidrel +TI to get DS2.  7 rounds of clomid (while ttc#1 #2) were never successful for me.  I started on the lowest dose 75 IUs, didn't stim for too long, and only had 2 mature follies when I triggered.  That first round worked.

Thank you, I'll give it a go:):)

  • I never really pushed it when I brought it up to them.  I figured I didn't know enough to counter their statements and with all of his positive talk I just fold and do another cycle his way.
I know that sounds silly but I'm a little fed up by what a push-over I am around him.

I think a low does and monitoring would be perfect.  I'm ok with "sacrificing" one cycle to try it out, even if I do end up having to stop.

I'll see if I can get a consult with the other RE in the area and go from there:)

  • Sounds like you need a new RE, if she gives injects to NO ONE but IVF.  In your case, though, you're having a near-ideal response already--3-4 good sized follicles.  Injects would be unlikely to help.

  • UGH! I was totally going to recommend even finding a new ob/gyn. Have you ever thought about NaProTechnology?

I had a RE who had the same thoughts as yours. Personally, I would tell him to go F off. Sure, it could just happen or you could go on to be infertile or suffer another loss. Its just crazy to think & say it out loud that "eventually it'll happen." Makes me mad!

  • I didn't respond well on clomid either.  I did it for 4 cycles and then my RE put me on injectables.  gonal F.  If its a low does and they monitor you you won't over stimulate.  I only had 2 Follies with it.  When i did IVF i was on a much higher dose and had about 20.
