PW3: NBR: Kindle or Nook for older people

I don't know who else to ask...My stepfather (67yo) is thinking of getting the Kindle or Nook or the like. However, he's hesitant to ask for it for Christmas because he would feel really, really bad if he gets it and doesn't like it (in other words--what if he is too old fashioned to enjoy the new technology)?--believe it or not, that's his question!! Do any of you have any experience with this??? TIA :)

Re: PW3: NBR: Kindle or Nook for older people

  • my in-laws are in their early 60's and love it. It's awesome because it's so light and they can adjust the font size to whatever they want.
  • Loading the player...
  • My mom has a kindle. Ditto about adjusting the font size. I know nothing about the Nook (other than it makes me laugh to say Nook e-reader b/c in my head I think "Nookie reader" which makes me think of some guy looking at porn).

My mom has been happy w/ her kindle. It's very user friendly, easy to search, etc.

  • My dad is 66 and uses the Nook and loves it!  Ditto on the font size.  He was also VERY wary going into it, and I had to talk him into using it.  He is not at all tech savvy and find the Nook easy to use.  I only got 1 or 2 phone calls the first week and nothing since.  Wink He uses it daily.
  • My parents love their Kindles, and even though they have an ipad now and don't really need the actual Kindle anymore, my dad just ordered a new Kindle to replace his broken one.  His eye doctor told him that the Kindle's E-Ink display is much better for his eyes than something backlit like an ipad and recommends that any extended reading be done on paper or E-ink to reduce eye strain.

    Word.

  • Both of my parents and my grandma all have kindles.  My grandma is almost 90 and has no problem using her kindle.  It's very user friendly and pretty easy to download books.
