Austin Babies

Would you buy this?

I'm making gifts for my daughter and nieces this Chanukah.  I've chosen this really adorable babushka matryoshka (Russian nesting dolls) "softie" pattern.  I made one this weekend and posted it on my FB page.  Below is a second set that I made.

Anyway, on my FB page, I had two comments about putting in an order and purchasing them.

My questions:

1) If you have little girls to give gifts to, would you purchase something like this.

2) If so, what would you expect to pay?

Here's the one I made today:

Re: Would you buy this?

  • Yes, I would buy. Would be a cute gift for my 18 month old niece and I like that you can probably "personalize" them with skin/hair color. BUT I have no idea what the rate should be. I would take into account how much the material cost and the time it takes to make one set. Let me know if you do sell them because I am definitely interested.

  • LOL- I saw it on your fb page and wanted them for Tops.

I have no idea about price. Totally depends on material and time.

  • I would definitely buy them.  I would also buy them as a kit that I would put together myself.

I would pay $20 for the kit.

I feel like the dolls are worth so much more than that but I am not sure I would pay more than $30 for them, and that's if they were personalized (skin and hair color).

I was trying to figure that out.  The material cost is actually really minimal.  I'd say around $5-$7 per set depending on the embellishments.

The time cost is a bit more.  This one took me about 6 hours total.  The faces are hand embroidered and that took me about an hour and a half.

The maker of the pattern sells finished doll sets for $40.  Is that too much?

Are you all to make w/ her pattern and resell? I know that when I get patterns, there is usually a statement in there specifically prohibiting the sale of products using the purchased pattern.

When I bought the pattern, I bought the rights to resell the completed dolls. My only restrictions are that I have to publicize who the maker of the pattern is and I can not have more than 10 units in stock at any one time.

BTW, Ben loves the ones I made this weekend!  Loves them. :)  I think Tops would too.

  • I think they're fab and wanted to buy one for my kiddo. But we're brokesters, and $40 is too much for us. That's not to say it's too much in general...especially with the handy work on the faces. They are absolutely adorable and I bet you'd make a killing at a holiday craft fair.
    Dear Bump: You suck.

Yes I would, when can I place my order? Seriously, I would love that for my niece.

While yes, 40 seems like a lot it is not too much for hand made dolls. You're are basically charging $5 per hour plus materials.

  • I would pay $40 for them, and I hope I have the chance to do so! I think you could sell them for more, especially if they were personalized.

  • LOL!  Well I'm glad to see there is interest. :)

If you are interested in them, send me an e-mail: gloria (dot) litt @gmail.
