Whats everyone doing to get back in shape after baby?

We'll only have a couple months to get back our beach bodies ladies! Whats everyone's plan for after baby? I joined a mommy jogging group already and thats been fun most of the ladies have babies but there are some preggo mommies jogging too.

Its hard because most gyms don't allow newborns in the nursery. Luckily we have a gym attached to our clubhouse so I can just load the babe in the stroller and go bust out a work out during a nap time or what ever.

Anyone ever do P90x? or 30 day shred?

Second timers, any good after baby diets that still allow for breastfeeding?

Re: Whats everyone doing to get back in shape after baby?

  • Does anyone know when we're allowed to get back into exercising?

My sort of plan at the moment is to 30 Day Shred as soon as I can.  After that I want to get back into Bikram yoga once or twice a week and pole.  I really miss my pole body.

  • I probably won't do anything too crazy. I'm not much of an exerciser, but I'll probably go for walks with Liam and maybe do some Dance Central and WiiFit.

  • Weight Watchers has a BF plan, but I didn't diet it until DD was 15 months old and weaned.  You can work your butt off, but your skin will probably not be ready for a bikini by next summer.  I'd come to grips with that now :)

  • as long as I don't have  a c/s I am going to start running and will have tickets to tough mudder (10 mile obstacle course run) in July so hopfully that will get me back in shape.  Depending on money I will start seeing a trainer after maybe 6 months if I am unable to do it on my own.  Main thing will probably be walking and running and light weights and abs  at home.

  • I run 5Ks and 10 ks all summer, so I will go back to training for those. Next summer (2012) was suppose to be my first 15 k, and I am hoping to get back in shape to stick to my goal. I will have to be ready for it by the deadline to register in June, I might have to do the shorter one again next year and wait for  the following year, but I am hoping to be ready in time!

So i will go back to running, I was doing 7 miles a day before pregnancy, and I know it will take time to get back to that.

Does your skin ever go back to sort of normal?

Usually 6 weeks after birth, at least for a vaginal birth.

    And my answer: breastfeeding Smile.

I'm still rocking a bikini, and I refuse to ever wear a "mom suit"  I oil myself up 3 times a day, even if I get stretch marks I'm still rocking a bikini next year. Just gotta get everything tightened back up.

Dewey I already asked my OB, its 6 weeks PP for vadge births and like 8-12 weeks C/S

  • Zumba. And convincing my hubby that I NEED an elliptical in the house :)
  • Before baby I changed my eating plan to an anti inflammatory diet in efforts to naturally clear up my skin. That plan went out the window once pregnant because only certain foods sounded good. However, on that diet I unintentionally lost 8 pounds in 2 months. I plan on going back to that eating plan ASAP after baby arrives maybe even right before. Not to mention it is a very healthy lifestyle.
  • I've done P90X once before and I will definitely be starting it back up once I'm able to!  It's completely intense, but I feel that even if you do a good portion of the workouts it works great.  The meal plan is a little ridiculous, but we'll see.

    I'm hoping breastfeeding helps too!

  • I will likely start another round of the Insanity workouts as soon as I am cleared to work out along with marathon training.  I plan to run a 1/2 marathon in July or August and a full marathon in October and will weight train in a Group Power class 2ce a week. This is my normal pre-preg workout regime and while I know I won't be as fast or strong as I was immediately, I am committed to getting back there as soon as humanly possible. Plus, I am told BFing helps shed the weight.
  • Living in South Florida is bikini season year-round which is pretty good incentive to stay in shape throughout my entire pregnancy. My plans post-pregnancy is to just jump on the elliptical when I can, pop in my Physique 57 dvd when I can, and mix up beach bootcamp with Orange Theory (a local group that mixes intervals of cardiovascular and strength training. So. Brutal.). We'll see how that goes.

  • I plan to do what I did the first time around - start long walks as soon as possible, then start running soon after.  Also, I hope to be able to run up until I deliver - I think exercising throughout the pregnancy is a huge help as far as recovering afterwards.  And the breastfeeding worked miracles for me.

  • I'll be hitting the gym during the week on my lunch breaks (my gym is less than a mile from my office) and on Sundays when my husband is home. I also intend on doing a Bikram 30 day challenge as soon as I feel up to it.

I have the Shred, but I hate it. I just hate working out at home in general though.

  • I plan to start walking as soon as humanly possible (2nd time moms, I know it's 6 weeks for exercise - does that include walks?) and then the 30DS as soon as my doctor clears me for exercise.  That and breastfeeding, I'm hoping that helps too!

I jog 45 minutes every morning and hope to even as it gets colder, and do another 25 minutes of yoga and 20 minutes of strength every day. I agree staying in shape seems to make pregnancy a lot easier. I'm hoping it makes labor and the recovery afterwards easier as well

  • Crossfit, running, and swimming. And trying to stay in as good of shape now as possible!

  • Going back to my vegetarian diet and cross-training, roller derby style!  Also, I do hear that breastfeeding really helps you lose weight.  Should do the trick pretty quickly, I hope.

That's my answer, too!  DH's coworker lost 40 pounds in a very very short amount of time (she put on 20 with her pregnancy, the rest was all gravy)

I wasn't a very active person pre-pregnancy but I'll definitely be taking the baby and our dog out for walks and when she's older, we'll go hiking again with our dog.  I'd rather do the free exercize stuff rather than join a gym that I know I won't stick with!

  • I did P90X and really like it. I don't know of any diets that are ok for breastfeeding. This time I plan on going to bootcamp class 3-4 mornings a week. I did it before and had great results! I have BIL's wedding May 26th and my sister's wedding July 7th so I have definite work to do!

  • I think we are supposed to wait 6 weeks to really start exercising again.  I used to do the P90X DVDs all the time and I like them.  So I figured I would just start right back on them.  I don't do gyms (they just make me really bored) so I do cardio outside like running or biking.  It won't really be any different than what I stopped doing about two months ago.  Hopefully the weight will come off quickly.  I won't be breastfeeding so I can go on pretty much whatever diet I please....which means I will just really try to limit the carbs as carbs seem to be my craving right now.

  • I was never given a timeframe that I had to wait before starting exercise again after my first.  My hospital paperwork basically just said to exercise when it was comfortable.  I was able to start running again 11 days postpartum, after a straightforward vag delivery.  I just think it's important to pay close attention to your body.

Also, my tummy went back to how it looked prepregnancy.  My bellybutton, on the other hand, looks a little stretched:(

  • Im actually resumeing my P90X this week (but very limited version) LOL. I was doing my P90x great up until mornign sickness kicked my butt a few weeks in. I started p90 literally right before i found out we were expecting. I was going on week 4. :(

To keep fit, i've been using a iphone app called Lose it to track all food and water intake. Since i finally feel better, i am going to start uping my walking and start to include light running with a few p90 sessions thrown in here and there.  I am by NO way a health nut or work out nut. But love to stay active. Literally i am 5'4 weighing in at 150. (did i just say that out Loud?) Crying

So currently my weight gain has only been 4-7 pounds. It changes daily. After baby, i will walk my 10 yr old to/from school which is a two mile trip round trip. And will also start up P90X FULL FORCE durning that time off. Hopefully to kick butt and get back my body better than before pregnancy. I literally gained so much weight since moving to Florida. Not as active as a lifestyle we had in So. Cal. Ick! too hot and humid here.

My husband is going to do P90 with to help motivate and support me. Hopefully together we will all support one another post baby to get back to healthy body weight and fitness.

  • Breastfeeding! Yes

  • I did Weight Watchers online after DD#2 and lost all my pg weight and then some. I started it about a month pp. Depending on how this c/s recovery goes, I probably won't be up for exercising until about 10-12wks pp. I think I'm going to use SparkPeople or something similar after DS is born to lose weight. I don't think I'll like WW new points system. I've also used MyFoodDiary.com before and that was a good site.

  • As soon as I get the go-ahead from my OB after LO arrives I am doing the P90X program again - got great results with it (following the nutrition plan) pre-pregnancy (closest thing to a 6-pack I ever had).  I don't plan to breastfeed, so the diet won't be an issue for me.

  • I love P90X and insanity.  I'll probably do insanity and crossfit.

  • I'll start running again as soon as I'm cleared. I'll be running a Half next fall, and hopefully some shorter distance races before that. That and breastfeeding should have me back to my regular size in no time!

  • I was asking my brother's GF, who just did a rotation in the maternity ward for her nursing program, what they tell pregnant women about exercise. She said they want you to get up and walk as soon as you can, so I don't think walking will be a problem for most of us.

On that note, I plan to keep up a walking routine. We picked out a nice stroller that will work on most terrains, so once baby can go outside, I want to take her to the park, daily.

As soon as I can, I want to add running back into my routine. In May, I was supposed to run my first 10 miler. I don't think I'll be ready for that, but my goal is to get back to running two or three 5k races a month like I did this past summer. I also want to keep up yoga once a week. The place I take  prenatal classes at has a mommy and me class that you can do after 6 weeks.

  • I am going back to counting my calories as well as watching closly what I eat since I will be breatfeeding Del Jr. I want to start walking, but I am not going to get out there too soon! Gonna wait a while then start walking with my lil' man.
  • I am signing up for an Olympic distance triathlon taking place in August. I WILL be able to swim 1.5k, bike 40k and run a 10k :)
  • I will go back on my low carb diet and do the P90 and P90x

  • I am planning on starting weight watchers as soon as I get home from the hospital.  That should give me 6 weeks to start slowly.  Then once I am cleared for exercise I plan to start on the elliptical and then add P90X.  I did this after my first pregnancy and lost 40lbs so I am hoping for the same this pregnancy.  Especially since I don't think I will have that much baby weight to loose.

  • I did 30 Day Shred for my wedding, and it helped SO MUCH.  I didn't do it as hardcore as it tells you to- I took my time and did a few weeks on each workout rather than 10 days each.  I am not one to work out, so spacing it a little was nice...I plan to start as soon as I feel good again- I was pretty sore and swollen after DS for a few weeks.

  • I'll be doing Weight Watchers online. I lost 20 lbs using the program prior to getting pregnant. It was super easy to follow and the weight just came off. Hoping I will have the same success postpartum.

     this is my plan.

also, i plan on being in a bikini next summer, so sory to the poster who deems that impossible, i am hoping it will not be! my body went back to the way it was within 6 months, and since i gave birth in july last time, i was not so much motivated for bikini season.

next year i have my my husbands best friends wedding then i am in my brothers wedding so i have major motivation. i also gained about 35 lbs last time, i am hoping to stay under 25 this time. i take my group power class 2 times a week and run/walk 2 days a week. staying in shape is key!

  • With DS I had a c-section so I will have a repeat with LO and wont be cleared to work out for 6 weeks. But breastfeeding will help a TON! I gained 30lbs with DS and after 3-4 weeks PP, I had already lost 20 just from BFing.

Once I was cleared I got a jogging stroller and would go walking/jogging with a friend. I also did some of the Jillian Michaels workouts (I got a set of 5 from amazon at a really good price) and those always kicked my butt and I could do them whenever DS was napping.
