Success after IF

Did you get baby blues again when you stopped BF'ing?

I'm very slowly starting to wean myself off of my lovely pump.  I dropped one session awhile ago and will drop another one eventually.  I'm down to three pumping sessions per day now.  I've heard that if you wean too fast, you run a higher risk of getting the baby blues.  I don't really want to deal with that again (although I have been kind of moody lately, I suppose and I'm not sure if this is why) - especially around the holidays.

Is there any truth to this?  If you had baby blues while weaning or post weaning, how were they in comparison to right after you had your baby(ies)?

Thanks!

  • I did not, but I guess I essentially had a super slow wean as my supply dropped and dropped.  that being said, I didn't have too much of the baby blues either though, just a few rough nights and some stress every night at bedtime.

  • I had crazy mood swings when I weaned the first time. The second, it coincided with my tummy tuck surgery, so pain pills pretty much alleviated any negative feelings I was having lol.  But yes, this is very common - weaning causes major hormonal drops/rises, and can be a very emotional time.

  • I have to say - it rocked my emotional world.  I have been having a hard time, off and on since giving birth.  I thought it was getting better but after he weaned it's been difficult again. I'm trying to chart things and watch my cycle, make lifestyle changes.

  • I'm not sure if a slow vs fast wean makes any difference.

I weaned Caroline really slowly...and I felt awful.  It was a pretty miserable experience...much worse than the baby blues after she was born.  I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

  • Umm I'm knee deep in it right now. My LO suddenly stopped nursing 4 days ago and my supply plummeted. I'm trying to pump why I can but it's barely anything. I am an emotional mess (see my previous posts). let me know if you need to chat!
