SO SORRY but I have blood in my stool

I have already called my OB, but since it isn't an emergency the nurse is going to call me back. I know this is one of the more gross things to bring up, but is anyone else or has anyone else experienced this? Do I need to be worried?  I am grateful (as weird as it sounds) that I'm not bleeding like a period, but my goodness I've never had blood in my stool before and I am freaking out!

    Was it IN your stool or was it more like on the toilet paper and bright red. Bright red blood usually indicates irritation on the outside. I get that sometimes when I have a hard stool, I have had some hemmeroid(spelling? lol) problems in the past. Usually if it comes from your intestines it's like black I think. Hopefully it shouldn't be anything too serious. T&P

    I agree with PP.  It's most likely a hemmroid you weren't aware of.  I've had this happen (last week actually).  It tends to happen more when I'm pregnant because of the constipation...ect.  Being pregnant isn't the loveliest most of the time, lol

    If it's red blood, it means it's closer to the exit and less of a big deal. In this case, brown blood is more serious.

    I've had this, but for me it was indicative of Ulcerative Colitis. Had to go for a colonoscopy to get diagnosed. NOT FUN. However, I had a lot of other symptoms that resembled IBS symptoms. Do you have any of those? Also, UC is hereditary.

    reading the link shayliz provided and based on what you gals posted I may have a hemorrhoid and didn't know or feel it. There was no blood on the toilet paper, just around the stool. sadly like the common problem with everyone else on this forum, the nurse is very busy and hasn't called back yet. i have no other symptoms and nothing resembling ibs.

    I sometimes have it with being pregnant right now, I'm constantly constipated (Sorry TMI) but thats just a normal symptoms so I'm so use to it, I just keep an eye on the redness of the blood, if its red I usually not worry, since you probably constipated during the pregnancy your stool are hard and its just rubbing with the inside lining there for thats where to blood comes from.

    I just got off the phone with the nurse. She said it isn't good to have blood in my stool, but because it was only one time, and I am not uncomfortable, I have to keep an eye on it.  It was red, not dark red so, she said it was probably something I ate paired with a hard stool. Thanks for all the support ladies!
