1st Trimester

How do you tell the difference between blump and actual bump?

I have been wondering this for awhile, and I don't want to be showing off a "bump" when it really is only blump? What I have going on seems to be getting firmer down low, but obviously is still a bit squishy on top. I can't suck it in anymore, my pants no longer button even with the best effort, and it doesn't go away like it use to overnight. I have read that it is crazy for a first timer to show this early, but is it possible? Or am I just hoping that this is the real thing?

Re: How do you tell the difference between blump and actual bump?

  • Hello, i am in the same boat LOL my pants hardly fit and the only thing that feels right on is track pants :) hehehe. I am almost at 13 weeks.

I think around 14-16 weeks is when we would normally start to pop! but i think right now it may be bloating too (i am feeling my tummy as we speak and its a little harder than before). Its soo exciting and the first time in my life i have not worried about looking a little bigger (enjoy every minute)

  • Blump felt real enough to be a bump until last week, when I started waking up in the mornings bumpless, only for it to return by evening.  Bumps don't do that; blumps do.  Hang in there!  Real bump is coming!!!
  • I have waited SO long to be pregnant so I decided early on that I don't care if I'm showing off a bump or blump. Most people wouldn't know the difference anyway, so I busted those maternity clothes out right at 6.5 weeks. I don't regret it!

However, I can say that in the last couple of weeks I can tell that my stomach is harder and like you, it doesn't go away at night. I am pretty sure it's bump at this point.

Oh, not to hijack your thread, but I've been wondering how the dinner thing went the other night.

  • imagecruelsound:

This shows you where your uterus is by week. If you think that bump = your uterus, then I guess you could go by that. I don't see what it matters though.

That's true, too, though.  You wouldn't have a blump if you weren't pregnant, so rock it.  It's got enough street cred.

  • I guess it really doesn't matter in the end. My body is going to react however it feels best to do so anyway. I'm just overly excited about the possibility of seeing a bump and I want to will it into reality. It is what it is....and if I look fat...oh well, I'm pregnant! HA!

Hey there, and thanks for asking. I decided to sit down and eat a few handfuls of saltine crackers and drink about 3/4 of a can of Vernors. Still feeling sick when we left, I felt better by the time we got to dinner. I was able to make my usual bowl and eat about 1/2 of it, so all was good. I was thinking about you too last night while I was drawing on our nursery walls and putting up light fixtures. I purchased a nightstand that will be a chairside table that is all hand built from logs. I love it, and it fits right in with our whole theme. I just wish I could work on it more to get it further along to actually be able to post some pictures. Soon though, very soon I promise! :)

  • I will be 17 weeks tomorrow, and I kind of popped just about a week or so ago. I definitely had a blump for awhile, and there is nothing wrong with switching to maternity pants early! I started wearing maternity pants at 13 weeks.

  • I know what you mean...I don't remember showing this early with my 1st.  I'm 7weeks today(got my 1st U/S this Wed) and I noticed yesterday that I couldn't suck in anymore...I told my hubby that I just felt fat but oh well....I am going to try to embrace my fat and pretend I'm further along :)
  • My mom told me she started to "pop" early and continued gradually.  She never had the "final pop" as she called it.  I have the firm belly thing going too and was wondering myself.  My husband thinks I'm imagining things, but I've only gained about 2-3 pounds.

I'm glad to hear that dinner went well and you were able to fly under the radar.  :)

I think I need to fly you in to GA to design my nursery!  I'm itching to get started on mine, but we're moving in February AND since we're team green we're thinking of waiting until our LO's are here to decide on a theme (or themes). I know I'll be glad in the end that I waited, but it's so hard!!

HAHAHAHAH!!! I would love to come down and give you a hand! Wink I'm an Architect by trade so this is part of what I do daily. Smile I love it and I'm so glad that my vision is finally starting to come together. It is finally getting to be real. We even hung up little branches with birds on them in the corners of the room that I bought from Collections Etc. too. Even DH was impressed last night after looking at my sketches and seeing it in real life. This whole thing is becoming real for him too and that is a cool thing to witness!

  • So glad this is posted- I almost posted myself. I have to stand "up straight" all day in tight fitted yoga clothes. It had been TERRIBLE. My students don't yet know I'm pregnant so i have been attempting to wear baggies shirts.

Is it difficutl to "hold in a blump" ? When I tighten every thing up there's nothing there.... So im thinking I'm on the blump side. Can not WAiT until I can tell everyone and finally walk aroun comfortable.

  • What the heck is a blump?!  I've never heard that term!

Wow! That sounds amazing!! What is your theme exactly?

So far, we're leaning towards a woodsy theme and the bird branches you spoke of caught my attention. I like the Enchanted Hollow collection by Eddie Bauer if it's a boy and Kids Line- Happi Tree collection if it's a girl :)

  • The uterus does not even reach the top of the pubic bone until 12 weeks. So not until at least then. Generally first pregnancies begin to really show between 15-18 weeks. Body type will make that vary as well
