Daycare update...(long)

We found a new one!!

While things have been going smoother at current daycare, I'm still not thrilled.  It's the little things piling up.  Feeding: they finally listened to me so LO is taking 3-4 bottles, 3oz each.  Sleeping well, playing, hitting his milestones (early!).  But generally, I'm still not 100% comfortable with all of it (one of the reasons I chose them is because their 2 main teachers have longevity with the center - but I'm finding now that while those are the 2 main teachers, they's a large number of other teachers that rotate in and out of there...not a deal breaker but not ideal in my mind).  The last couple of days, one of the main teachers has been out sick and there have been fill ins there.  I understand that, it happens.  BUT 2 of them I've never met before yet I was able to go in, pick my child up, get his stuff ready and just before I left, I introduced myself to them...I could have been ANYBODY!!!  *sigh*

The final straw however...more ironic than alarming in my mind.  Last week the 7 month old in the infant room was mildly sick, green snotty nose but still cheerful and playful.  (Green snot = goes home, right?).  Friday morning, at drop off, I overhear the mom tell the teacher that he got his meds that morning and doesn't need more.  Turns out the little boy - who didn't miss a single day of daycare - has BRONCHITIS!!!  I'm not a germophob and I know that getting sick is part of life.  So I didn't worry about it too much.  This week, teacher #1 has been out sick since Wednesday.  And Teacher #2 is there but sicker than a dog.  BOTH HAVE BRONCHITIS!!  Irony.  Right? 

I know the new daycare won't have it's issues, but gee-golly, it's GOT to be better!

    That sucks. My son is in preschool which also is a daycare and he is always coming home with all sorts of sicknesses. I am also very concerned about safety but at least my son is 4 and will speak up if somebody tries to take him that isn't me.

    As far as bronchitis, it's not really an illness. It's inflammation usually caused by and illness or sometimes even allergy. I have chronic bronchitis and if I have a cold or something, I could end up coughing from it for 3 months. In any event, I wouldn't really worry too much about bronchitis unless it's accompanied by other symptoms, fever, infection-y looking snot, etc.

    If you have concerns about a daycare, it is best that you found a new one.  IMO, green snot =stay home, which is why DD has been home for three days. Keep in mind that the new daycare will have it 's issues as well, otherwise you could drive yourself crazy looking for the perfect daycare.

    It's hard when they're that little. I couldn't bring myself to put LO in day care until he was 17 months old. But I was lucky I didn't have to put him in earlier. And yes, as soon as he was in day care (only 2 days a week at first), he got sick all the time. Every other week he had some kind of virus (respiratory, digestive, etc). Thankfully nothing has been serious but it's a drag. Especially since I have to stay home with him when he's sick and I can't go to work (I work part-time for now). The good thing is they usually build most of the immunity they need after being in day care about a year. So there's light at the end of the tunnel. LO still gets sick but not as often as the beginning.

    Our day care sends them home when they have green snot or diarrhea but it's hard to know which kids are getting sick, most times the virus is contagious before showing any symptoms. There's not much you can do about it unfortunately. That's the nature of day care centers. But some are def. cleaner (more strict) than others. Good luck!

    Me: 44 DH: 42. DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09. TTC since then with no luck or ART. Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.

    If you are upset because a child is at DC with Broncitis then color me guilty as well.  M gets lung inflamation very easily.  He has had broncitis since last week.  He was out two days (day one fever and day two still not fever free 24 hours.)  But his snot is clear/cloudy.  I work hard not to get anyone else's child sick but sometimes things are out of my control.

    Oh - I'm not blaming mom at all and certainly not kid.  But this baby was obviously sick all week and absolutely MISERABLE on Friday...and was on antibiotics, first dose that morning vs. what is supposed to be 24 hours...

    it's just the straw in this case. 

    And Friday they laid off the only teacher I did like.  or fired?  I'm not clear on what happened.  DH did pick up so he saw it.
