Car seat safety question

For some reason I recall hearing that you are supposed to push back the car seat handle when you put the seat in the car. The person I heard it from said that the handles have become projectiles in an accident if they are in the up position. Anyone else heard this?

I haven't heard this. We had our car seat installed by the sherrifs office and they never mentioned that to be a projectile, just toys on the handle and loose things in the car.

yes, you should always push the handle back so that it is not in front of LO while driving in the car.

Our Baby Trend seat has a warning graphic on the side that says to put the handle down when you put it in the car. It doesn't say why though.

Yes, the policeman who installed the car seat for us the first time said to always push it back because the handle can shatter in a crash.

read your manual..mine needs to be all the way up OR all the way back

I was told it can affect the movement of the seat in the event of a car accident. I heard this several years ago, so I asked the officer when I had my seat installed and he told me to always put it down.

You need to check the manual for your particular car seat. Some allow the handle to be all the way up OR all the way down - never in the "in between" spots.
