Car seat safety question

For some reason I recall hearing that you are supposed to push back the car seat handle when you put the seat in the car. The person I heard it from said that the handles have become projectiles in an accident if they are in the up position. Anyone else heard this?

Re: Car seat safety question

  • I haven't heard this. We had our car seat installed by the sherrifs office and they never mentioned that to be a projectile, just toys on the handle and loose things in the car.

  • yes, you should always push the handle back so that it is not in front of LO while driving in the car.

  • Our Baby Trend seat has a warning graphic on the side that says to put the handle down when you put it in the car. It doesn't say why though.

  • Yes, the policeman who installed the car seat for us the first time said to always push it back because the handle can shatter in a crash.

  • We were told to put it down, as well.

  • read your manual..mine needs to be all the way up OR all the way back
  • I was told it can affect the movement of the seat in the event of a car accident. I heard this several years ago, so I asked the officer when I had my seat installed and he told me to always put it down.
  • You need to check the manual for your particular car seat. Some allow the handle to be all the way up OR all the way down - never in the "in between" spots.
