Sick only in Church...

The last 4 weekends I have gotten sick in Church.  I'm not talking I feel a little queasy, I mean I feel like I'm going to pass out.  We are Catholic and it only seems to hit me after the sermon when we stand, kneel, kneel, stand, etc. Like yesterday I got hot, started sweating, my ears started ringing and I felt like I was going to pass out...while kneeling; it isn't like I stood up too quick and locked my knees or anything because I know that can make a non-pregnant person pass out.  Once I sat back and fanned myself a few minutes I felt better.  I feel great most of the week and luckily have had very little morning sickness, but for some reason church kicks my butt every week.

Any tips or advice?

Anybody else get sick at odd times like that?

Re: Sick only in Church...

  • with my second DD born in 2009 I got that way every sunday. I am not catholic, but we do sit and stand to sing, and after awhile it got to be too much, I would end up just sitting, and fanning myself, pretty bad, even in the winter we roast, lol, hang in there, let your Dr know to make sure it's not a blood sugar issue, and good luck, if u dont feel good, sit, God doesnt care either way :)

  • It doesn't sound all that odd. Have you had your blood pressure checked recently??
  • I get this every time I am in a Catholic church. I start to feel really hot, then see black spots, then black out, then pass out if I'm not outside in time. That's when I'm not preganant. DH teaches at a catholic school and keeps begging me to come to their Thursday morning mass and I haven't yet because I'm too scared. I haven't found anything that makes it better. Sorry

  • We are Catholic and this happened to me every sunday last time i was pregnant! It's funny that someone else had that experience, too! I just stood up when I felt like it, but I also had to sit down a lot. The best advice I can give is to listen to your body and sit down if you don't feel well. Good luck!

Goodness!  I think you're allergic to Catholicism!

  • I'm not catholic but in our church we do stand a lot for praises and songs, its about 20 minutes total, I was feeling the same way too, dizzy nausea and hot. So I just end up sitting while everyone else was standing.

  • I'm relieved to hear it's just not me!  Thanks for all the advice ladies, good luck to all of you...and may we all make it through Church within the next few months without passing out :)
  • I was just lurking on 1st tri but I had this problem with my last pregnancy AND this one.  I don't know if it's the crowd of people or what but I get real queasy and dizzy in churchn (Catholic also).  And I feel so exhausted while there.  I don't even do the kneeling and I only stand for very brief moments because I feel like I am going to pass out.

I thought it was odd that it was only in Church!

If you truly don't want to believe that you are allergic to your religion, or place of worship, I would highly suggest praying next to the exit or if possible somewhere a little more ''drafty''. You may not realize it but you may be having a reaction to combinations of chemicals in your more sensitive/delicate state. Just because you cannot smell chemicals, doesn't mean that they aren't there. (the coating on pews + grandma's hairspray + Jimmy's aftershave + claustrophobic/poorly ventilated building = a lot of chemicals)

"What are you having?" "Well the radiologist says its a healthy little human baby. I'm a little disappointed, because I really wanted a puppy." LOL

I hadn't thought about it being chemical, but that would make sense, the claustrophobia too!  Hadn't thought of that...I'm trying praying by the door next week and see if it helps :)
