Natural childbirth options..

Hi all!  I currently see an OB and am planning to deliver at a hospital.  My husband and I are taking Bradley classes in hopes of having a natural childbirth.  I had a dr's appt today and asked my OB about some things we had learned in our classes and she does not seem very open to some of our wants.  Needless to say, I left the appointment feeling pretty discouraged and upset.  We aren't really sure we want to switch up things this late in the game (I am a little over 28 weeks now), but would like to research other options.  Does anyone know of a birth center or a great midwife or doula in the central Ohio area?  Thanks!  Any suggestions would be helpful. :)

  • This might not be the way you want to go but, Dublin's Methodist has only midwives on staff (not OB residents like most hospitals in CBUS). They deliver your baby if you show up and don't have an OB assigned, your OB can't make it or you don't have medical insurance. I was scheduled to deliver at a different hospital but I showed up at Dublin's because my good friend is a midwife there and she delivered my baby! I had a different midwife during my post-delivery and she was also great. I can't say enough good things about midwives they are more open, in my opinion, to a more natural, less invasive birth...or whatever type of birth you want they'll support your decision as long as you and the baby are doing ok. • The midwives at Women's Contemporary Healthcare are awesome!!! I definitely recommend them. They're in westerville and deliver at St. Ann's hospital. I was also seeing an O.B. who was not open to natural birth options, so I did a lot of research and switched to WCH at 28 weeks. It was late in the pregnancy, but it was the best choice I made. There were a lot of things that happened during my labor that would have ended in a C-section if I had stayed with the O.B. I had, but with Emily I was able to have a completely natural birth with no meds. They're awesome and St. Ann's is awesome, too. I had the sweetest nurse! You can even do waterbirth there with the midwives from WHC if you want to! I loved WHC so much that I hugged Emily after my first visit! They also have O.B.s in their practice, so if you end up being high risk they will refer you to them, but they too are pretty open!

I Bump from my phone 90% of the time, with a baby in my lap, so please excuse my bad format and poor spelling and/or punctuation.
  • Thank you so much!  I have done some research during the past couple days and stumbled across this place.  I have emailed back and forth with Emily quite a bit, and it sounds like exactly what I'm looking for!  The only thing I'm waiting on is for my insurance to quit giving me the run around trying to find out whether or not this office is covered.  I really hope it works out, thanks for your advice and support!

  • I second Women's Contemporary Health!  I just recently switched to this practice after being unhappy with Professionals for Women's Health.  PWH just wasn't a fit for me and my husband, being first-timers who are seriously interested in natural birth.  But from the first appointment with Emily at WCH, my husband  and I felt totally comfortable!  She is very attentive, spent lots of time with us, let us ask question, asked questions of her own that I had not be asked before, but which made me feel like she was actually trying to get to know our situation.  And she said that most of their births are natural.  I've also heard that St. Ann's is a great place to give birth!  Whatever you decide, good luck!!

    I third WCH!
And FWIW.. I switch OBs with DD when I was 34 weeks and it was the best decision I made! I think having the labor YOU want is way more important than anything else. GL!
